My friend and I have opposing view on this subject...when I open raise, I ALWAYS raise the same amount, no matter what, 4x the BB. He says and raises different ts amounts depending on his hand and also limps sometimes which is something I NEVER do, I never limp! Just curious some other people's opinion on the subject

Raising

4x is BB is a little to big of a raise.. I would suggest raising 2BB up to 3x BB. Limping is never an option for me unless you limp trap SB vs BB or have a marginal hand and want to limp SB vs BB.

I think 2x is a bit small so u would suggest 3x BB? My consistent raise is ok though?

I think increasing and decreasing your raises gives away information. While it is true that someone could bet "less" with AA or KK, that really isn't human nature. The natural reaction with a big hand is to increase your raise, even if it is only a little.

I personally keep my raises the same. If I'm playing looser, you will get 3x. If I'm playing tighter, I'm betting the pot. Same every time regardless of my hand. I'm not suggesting you adopt this strategy, just showing my general strategy.

A limp is not a good habit to get into, but there are hands that are okay with a limp or smooth call. Things like a suited A-rag and small pairs aren't bad limps/smooth calls. The problem is that these hands take more skill to play and can get you into big pots you have no business being in. Tread carefully.

2xBB or 3xBB for raises is the right amount for me to raise preflop.

over time you develop your strategy! Since difficult to stick to a strategy for the different tables with different dynamics! But for this you need experience and kolosalny amount of work! Good luck to you my friend!

For me, it depends on why are you raising the same amount. Everybody have their own strategy and reason why they are using it.

Personally, I think there is nothing wrong with both of your style.

I find that the best way to bet is be inconsistent at times when you need to be, like maybe when in position.
For example,in a game you made a bet that you usually make with KK+ and later you have A10 in position, in this place I bet the same with A10 as if it were KK+, based on action before me though and how aggressive I have been in the hands before this hand.
I will on occasion raise from late position with cards like 45/56 suited, not by much, maybe 3BB, have been called, hit flop hard and completely disguised.

I never limp too. Its just a big mistake, unless you are on SB and BB are a LAG player
But I prefer to do 3x them 4x. And if there limpers I put 1BB for each limper.
