Hello my question is which games do you guys perfer cash tables or sng/reg tournaments. The reason I ask is lately I neen kicking ass on cash tables and being cripled in micro sngs.I use to have a high win percentage with the sit and go tournys. Not no more.Lately on bovada I have seen some crazy turn and river cards come up. Such as this hand here Im in the sm blind with K7 off everyone fold til a solid player in late position pushes 4 times the blind k hes strong or has poket pair I call to see the flop with big blind still ahead of me he re raises to the better he puses all in I fold with rainbow 2 7 A on the flop I have to fold which normaly for the right price I would stick around. I dont need to I have a good chip count turn river come I cant beleave it K K . I been playing really aggressive to have the chip lead in this tournament.Did I make the right choice I could of easily called but lost a little less then hafe my chips. Going against pocket AAs and QQs. MADE A MISTAKE WHEN I SAID THAY PUSHED ALL IN BEFORE THE TURN IT WAS AFTER AND THE BET WITH THE ACE OUT THERE I FELT THE TURN WOULDNT HELP WHICH I WAS WRONG IN THAT ASPECT. BUT I WAS RIGHT ON MY READ TO FOLD BEFORE THE HAND CONTINUED. WHAT WOULD HAVE DONE? I did open with a bet to test the waters. And then got out of the way. People on bovada been playing more aggressive with the promo going on be careful friends. CASH GAMES OR TOURNAMENT/SnGs???

Since I'm trying to build a bankroll from nothing and I'm a beginner I'm focusing on freeroll tournaments. If you're doing better on cash tables I would focus on those. I play on Carbon and I've also been seeing garbage hands that I've folded turn into monsters multiple times in the same tournament and it's really frustrating, especially when you're short stacked and could have used the double/triple up. Lately I've seen T5o flop quad 5's, K2o flop a full house, multiple straights completed on the river with hands like 53o, 85o, etc. but you can't spew chips trying to guess which one of those garbage hands is going to connect because you will lose more in the long run.

I'm a rookie so my analysis doesn't count for much, but generally if there is a pre-flop raise of that size and I'm in the small blind with a marginal hand I will just fold, primarily because of position. If it's just me and the big blind, I will at least call with King high because it's a pretty good hand heads up, depending on stack sizes and how the BB has been playing I would probably raise also, if for nothing more than a blind steal.

i agree, stick with what works. pros and cons...in cash games and u start to go on a losing streak, you can walk away. SNG's you need to place to get the money yet you risk little to gain. the book i'm reading suggests SNGs for those starting out but if you're making profit on the cash tables..then stick to it. at the very least take half of your profit toward a SNG that way you're playing the SNG for free

If you're winning cash games, then stick with them.

With your little example there, the reason you're losing SnG's(if I could understand correctly through the misspellings, no punctuation and CAPS) is that you are making calls that should be folds. Who cares what the flop/turn/river comes out after you fold, you should look at the hand as if it was a good move as the cards have been shown up to that point. 72o could hit 777 on the flop, but that in no way justifies calling anything preflop with that hand.

If you were flat calling k7o from the sb, you're making a bad play the majority of the time. You are OOP for the rest of the hand, your hand is subpar, your villain showed aggression preflop, etc... FOLD!!!

Play whatever you enjoy. Making money is part of the enjoyment, so I don't try to separate it out completely. However, I do think it's a matter of balancing your levels of enjoyment for different forms of poker with the difference in your win rate.

As a simple example, if I enjoy MTTs and hate cash games, do I really want to play the latter very much if my win rate is only a little higher?

Also, it's not like you can't switch up when you're in the mood to do so.
