I find myself every day flicking between several forums, looking at threads, reading strategy articles, then I would see a term like 'pot control' and would type that into google and read an article on that to brush up on it. Then for example I would think about hand ranges, and google articles and charts on that and so on. All while flicking between here and flopturnriver.com, and any other site that I can get information from on different subjects reading whichever ones interest me or subjects that I am not entirely familiar with.

Then some days I work my way through a poker book like Dan Harrington, Super System etc and I have a poker notepad to jot down any important points that I pick up.

Then back to forums, articles etc etc

Of course with playing some hands as well as posting hands on forums for analysis, while reading through hands that other players have posted too.

I do this every day.

Is this an effective way of studying ? Or should I focus full sessions to one particular subject then move onto the next? Is what I am doing fine and will I eventually and subconsciously be getting better as a player?

How do you guys study, in what volume? Any advice and feedback would be brilliant, my first proper post of many on this forum, I hope from this post and some of the replies that it might receive, that it can help others with studying as well as myself.

It all depends. If it works for you, keep doing it. Some people learn better by reading before practicing, while others can read information but not truly grasp it until they put it into practice.

There is, however, no substitute for experience and getting feedback from others, so whatever you are doing be sure to take notes on hands and seek advice from friends or forum members.

Thanks dude, would you consider feedback from actual hands and analysis of the hands to be the best way to take your game to the next level?

For the most part, yes. Some concepts won't completely stick with you until after you've made the same mistake several times and someone points it out.

In my opinion, any studying is good studying, as long as you feel it is working for you. Studying poker is no different to studying any other subject, in which case the more you do the better you should become. Finding a variety of formats is interesting, but take care not it get over confused by mixed messages. Everyone has their own style and of course you will run the risk of getting confused. Also don't just stick to one provider, cos you end up playing their way which may not be overall beneficial to you.

Just make sure that you enjoy the studying.
