Question about a tied hand

Hi everyone, I played a hand earlier and we both tied with QTo. I went all in with $5k (play money) and he saw me with all he had, which was $3k. Would I have got the $2k balance back before they split the pot or would the $2k balance be shared as well? Thanks

Thanks gryphon, I thought that would be the case, it just appeared as if it was shared. It was obviously my adding up at fault. Thanks for clearing that up.
