hey gang!
just wondering if anyone has any clue how to put people on trips? whether you can do it live or online, id like to hear. I've been thinking about this alot lately and this, i believe, is a great beginning thought on how to put people on trips...

It's almost like there is a feeling in my body that doesn't understand why this person bet. Do you know what I mean? like it could even be the standard raise, but it just doesn't feel like a top pair bet. Do you know what I'm saying? Also, If they look very comfortable just putting money into the pot. Thats all i got folks, please post below on what I just said and/or what you think. To me, sniffin trips out would be almost like a super power. thank you and happy thanksgiving

Are you talking about sets or trips? It sounds more like sets.

Yeah you should change the OP title to "sets" when you have a pair in hand and another of that kind on the board, as opposed to "trips" when 2 of that kind are on board and one in hand.......

how do you edit threads?

You cant, if your post is like more than 15 minutes old (I am not sure of the exact time limit) but never mind, your meaning is now clear.

OK, how to put people on sets? If you play live, you have to be attentive and hopefully have profiled the player a bit. Online, HUD stats can help you a lot.

Live: If someone is calling a lot and plays passive after the flop, it is pretty easy. On a low board, action from a passive player should raise red flags. Smart players will be playing sets and repping sets similar, so you need to pay attention to c/r they do, or check/calls, stuff like this, if you get to SD. You just have to try to see how they play their draws, under pairs, TP etc, and hopefully find fold with your TP hands when you feel they are happy with a board that sets are going to like.

Online: Also, passive players waking up is always a bad sign if you have one pair, except maybe on A high boards, where they like to play Ax a lot. If you dont use a HUD, same as live, you need to pay attention to shown hands and profile.

It is often simply just hard to put players on sets. You have to get used to reading board textures and being able to try to profile. The better the player, the harder profiling can be. Some maniacs play sets - or any strong hand - the same way as total air, there you just have to take your pick to believe or not.

aggression eliminates the problems

Which problems? What are you talking about?

A single sentence that specifies nothing is not going to be any help to anyone. It also does not show any consideration on your part of the question posed in OP.

thanks for the info! All that makes sense, and I know there's no exact science to putting people on a set.

I wanna tell you a story of the most recent time i successfully put someone on a set. Hijack raises 3x, sb calls, and I call with 66 in the bb. Flop came 5-6-k all spades. Im playin online now, without skippin a beat, sb bets out. I reraised, original raiser folds, then he reraised me back.

It was at that moment, I realized that there was no way he had a spade in his hand. What could he be so commited with? I had 2nd set, pocket kings he woulda made some more noise preflip. then it hit me, pocket 5s is the only hand this passive player could have that makes him so willing to put money into the board like that. So, I ended up shoving and he snap calls. pocket 5s! he was drawin to a 1-outer. one of the few times i put someone on an exact hand and was right.

This story isnt a brag, although it is pretty cool. It was just a gut feeling. when someone has a set they seem to be casually betting with no fear and are comfortable when looking at a reraise. again thank you, i appreciate your info.
