Hello. Read the forum to have discussed a number of strategies. To become a fan of the beginning. Good luck.

Discipline, Discipline, Discipline. That's the way to go!

Don't think of poker like a fancy-pass time, think of it like a business. Your own business, you don't want to mess it up, do you? You do everything right to get your company to the peak; off course there will be bad times when things aren't looking good, but you need to be disciplined enough to look over those times and do the right thing.

Find your game, by that I mean, learn about every possible variant (just the basic). Go for Limit/No Limit Hold'em, Stud, Razz, 5-card draw, 2-7 low ball and try it out. There are a lot of freerolls available for it on certain sites like pokerstars. And see which game suits you the best.

Now if you get that and found your game, the next step is to improve your game. Start by reading a book (I can suggest some, if you want to or you can check out the forum about it), implement those learnings into your game. Keep on doing it till you have understood every bit of concept there is to. Once there, improvise your game, jack it up! Take the leap from playing cards to playing players and their tendencies (this takes a lot of time, in my case, its been a year or so, but still I'm short of where I want to be).

Poker is a game that could take a lot of years to learn and its not that easy to do it. So you need to lay the foundation right in order to succeed.

That said, all the best with your journey. May the cards be with you!

Very well said. Discipline is the key to success. I believe the best advice for you to have early success is, play in position, play with aggression, and play with selection. Don't rely on luck.
