I watch videos about poker, read articles and other strategy stuff. The problem is when I am on the table I forget everything I learned. I keep playing my way. I don't why. Any solutions?

Try going bite sized - other words take ONE thing you have read or learned and incorporate it into your game. Pretty soon your tool box will have a lot more variety.

+1 to this.

Start with just your opening ranges. Keep things as simple as possible:
1) Early position I will raise AJ or better
2) Late position I will raise JT or better

Focus solely on getting that correct. Then gradually add a little more complexity to it until you have a well-defined opening range from every position.

Then you can move on to postflop. You can teach yourself to Cbet flops regardless of whether you hit or miss. Then you can teach yourself to barrel turns when you have any kind of draw (semi-bluff), as well as any kind of value hand (top pair or better).

Then you can focus on things like bet sizing, pot odds, implied odds, reverse implied odds, etc.

Just focus on one thing at a time (I suggest preflop first) and don't overwhelm yourself with all the complexities of poker.

We need to test different game strategies. And to adopt more suitable for you. To analyze your mistakes and if possible not to repeat them in the future. All comes with experience. If you really firmly set a goal in front of you, then everything will come with time.

Been there myself. I agree 100% - it take experience. Some of us learn best by doing. It doesn't really matter how many times you've read that opening with weaker hands from early position is generally a bad idea. Because of variance, loose play and multiple callers at free/micro stakes, you're going to see the opposite result happen quite a bit. That is going to confuse the inner psyche, and make you inwardly disbelieve everything you're read.

For some of us, it's not going to sink in till we've personally built our own internal database of: 'good play = good results' (e.g., 70% of the time), vs. 'bad play = good results' (e.g., 30% of the time).

Bite sized... lol. Yea, a great way of putting it.

Matthew gave some good ideas of what to do.

Starting hands are a good way to start. One of the first things I would add is ranging your opponent. So you are like "I have xx, and he would call/raise me with what?" So he would call your EP raise with xx range, your MP raise with xx etc. he would raise your EP raise with xx and so on.

Your starting hand range is step one, but preflop, you have to deal with callers and raisers, so you need to fairly quickly deal with this as well.

IMO, it is really ok to be wrong. Just do things because you have decided xxxxxx. In other words, dont just blindly raise, call, fold. Do it because you think xxx. Whatever xxx is. It is better to decide to act because of a wrong reason then to act for no reason.... IMHO.

Bottom line, think about why you do what you do. Then do it. Whether it was a good decision or not, you can tackle later in review.

Same problem. Understand what you need to do fold, but call a bet in the hope river. Thus lose a lot of chips

Hay Monous and welcome to Cardschat. Man why don't you try writing things down as you are playing. I keep a pad in front of me. I don't know if videos and reading articles helps. I've never done anything but ask advice right here. I believe being at the tables will teach you more than any thing. Hay many of these members are more than 10nl players, so ask for advice. GL to you

Try looking to these hands played (hand history) to see if you can obtain some advantage.

there are so many aspects of poker it would be impossible to learn them all at once-i would suggest learning specific things then trying them on the tables only when you feel you gotten better at what ever it was your working on-then go back and try learning another aspect-theres is no short cuts at getter better-if you walk a mile into the woods its a mile walk out,i would suggest grisped poker vids -he has many vids on utoobe ,from opening range to most every preflop vid needed to become better-it is possible to get better if you put the work in-dont try and incorporate to much into your game at once but little by little might be just the thing

in poker (for me at least) you should try to shut down ur emotions.. and play patiently! try to analyze the playstyle of ur opponents and also learn how to fold good hands! (i know its hard)

Start with abc poker game, then you're adding to your game strategy, observing and analyzing the game and your opponents.
The practice will make the theory learned, is set in your brain ;)

I completely agree with Mediablitz. Anytime you read or watch a new video you will only retain about 10% of that information. Pick one main idea and stay focused on it for multiple sessions. Not only will that piece of information become locked in, but you will better be able to evaluate what worked and what did not as you tried implementing it.

I read a lot about poker but teaching comes from practice.
it is true that the initial notions should know but can not without a lot of practice.

It may help you if you take some notes and reread them often. Notes could be some strategies, Outs, Odds, different table positions. Perhaps you could write down some characteristics of UTG, Button, +1, CF, ...

Then you should practice them by playing but don't miss them, always stick to them although it is hard sometimes. You will learn feeling it, having the right intuition and playing better poker.

Stick to rules, strategies and beware of becoming inpatient... Go on!

Have you tried doing hand drills with Ace Poker Drills?
