These are virtually the same and the only difference is in the way they are expressed.
Some people prefer to deal with percentages, while others prefer odds.
Probability is the chance that something will happen and is expressed in percentages between 0 and 100. The higher the percentage the more likely the event will happen.
Odds are the ratio between an event happening and the number of times it will not happen. It is expressed as one number over another number eg 4/1,The higher the odds the less likely the event will happen.

As a poker player, you will more than likely be better off using odds than probs. It is easier to figure out if you should call based on pot odds, and implied pot odds (what will you get on the next round of betting if you hit your hand on the next card).

What you want to do is become proficient on converting probs to odds, that way you can count your outs, figure the percentage, and then give yourself the odds and see if it all adds up to a call or fold based on how much you will win.

8 outs, close to 17%, thats low, but still 17 out of 100 times you will lose, you just got stuck in the bad luck zone

The player with 8,4 has two pair (8,8 + 6,6) the player with 10,10 also has two pair (10,10 + 6,6). 10,10 is higher than 8,8 so that player wins. The object of the game is to make the best 5 card hand from all 7 available cards so it is not possible to have 3 pairs, in case that is what you are thinking, since that would need 6 cards.
