How do you, Not get caught in a trap? For example, how do ya know if another player is holding three of a kind on the flop? How do you, prevent or reduce the chances of this happening...
I am learning to recognize these plays and am able to place a player on his hand more as I continue to play...

Spotting and reacting to opponents slow playing (Slow playing monsters)

Hi guys

One of my biggest leaks in online Holdem is being unsure whether my opponent is slow playing a monster or not. I often find myself in the situation where I put an opponent on a missed draw and turns out they flopped a monster and checked/called all the way to the river. I've been working on my thin value betting and exploitative play and often find myself losing my stack when I get 3 bet on the river in a situation where I feel I definitely cannot fold. Obviously it's infuriating and I feel incredibly stupid.
My question to you all is; do you have any red flags/ signs or is it just one of those situations in which only the Iveys will fold? Should I just suck it up and take it as "It's one of those poker things."?
Of course I know this plays a part of variance and my bankroll should be sufficient to account for these situations, however these situations happen often enough against my tptk or top 2 pair for me to be inclined to think I'm a retarddonkfish. Or is it that I'm just unlucky and it happens to the best of us?

You must watch him to see how he plays.

I do this all the time, slow play a huge hand right to the end. But it's because I stink and can't figure out my cards so I genuinely don't know what I'm holding. I should drink less while playing.

the other day i was playing and i had pocket kings and i raise 4xbb and it folded around to a player in mp and he called.
flop came 7, 10, 5 rainbow.
he check the flop and i decided to bet around half pot to see where he is in the hand hoping i could steal the pot with KK, however he called.
Turn came 2d, and he check again, i bet pot size and he raised all in,
after much contemplation i folded my KK,
he proceeded to reveal pocket 7s.

MOst players who holds mid to low pockets normally set mine, they limp and called most raises preflop hoping to hit the set on the flop, when they do they might most likely check if its a dry flop, or bet if the board might be wet. What i normally do is to c-bet or delay c-bet to see where they are in the hand, if they call or re-raise i would then re-evaluate base on the player notes and other variables. Should always keep notes on players as it would help with these situations

Sometimes you can smell it out. If it is a super aggressive player who will raise with anything and always c-bets and now doesn't c-bet I would be suspicious.

If a person has 3 of a kind in lower stakes, they will let you know about it. If the board is dangerous they will bet strong, if not they will string you along. If you suspect someone has a set to your top pair then just eliminate the reraise option from your course of action and you should be relatively safe, relatively.

From my limited experience I can tell you that they will play passively the flop and bet 100% the river.
Many times some more experienced players the will inflate the pot on the flop, by click back check raise, if the board is wetish.

To be honest you can't really tell if someone has this particular combination you are asking for. Maybe pot controlling is something you can use and reduce your loses. GL

I always make notes for each player, it helps a lot when it comes to facing your opponents, sometimes it's also good to leave pride aside and drop a top pair when the flop is very strange.

Poker is a game where you can't be 100% sure of anything but there are still ways to improve your skills and make better reads. I agree with many of here: pay attention to the game and every player, take notes and compare them with actions they make. Is someone suddenly playing different than usual? Are they taking a longer time to think? Are they calling super fast? Is the pot getting big and they are still calling/raising? Are they checking but still calling big raises? All those things can be a tell if you have been paying attention before.

I am playing small stakes cash games and there is one tell when someone is slow playing something big. Many of them are trying to make you think that they are insecure about their hand and therefore they seem to be thinking their call way longer than usual. Of course that is just acting but if I see someone doing that, I immediately start playing a bit more careful. And they often just call, they don't want to scare you away.

Super fast call however, is sometimes a sign of a flush draw. People get so excited about their draw that they can't wait to see the next card and they are willing to pay for it. Sounds weird but I have been making many successful hero calls and raises on river with this one when they miss their draw.

Of course those don't apply to every situation and there might be many reasons if someone is calling slow or fast but those are still valuable tells in some occasions. Another way to reduce your losses is of course trying to keep the pot small if you don't have anything better than a pair. If the pot is getting big, they usually have something worth playing and one pair just might not be enough against them. Good luck! :)

Lmfao! Break wind.

In serio, I'm a big fan of folding a shit hand, even if you don't know it's a shit hand until the flop or turn. Even the river. I'm a big fan of folding. If you're going to commit, commit all-in. If you're not All-in, you're not committed. So folding is fine.
