Of course they apply in tournaments. Why wouldn't they? And you look at pot odds during every stage, though later you might base a call more on reads than just odds alone, but the pot odds still apply.

Why are you typing in almost all caps?

cAPS lOCK! (sHIFT FOR LOWER CASE)

rubgy, if your not very comfortable calculating pot odds
I'd recomend you read through this: Poker Odds for Dummies - Poker Odds Made Simple!
(in the CC "Strategery" Articles section - where we "hide" the all good stuff )

In tourney play, stack size is important too... I personally don't risk my entire stack on a draw "with odds" since I can't just reload. Not to say I haven't seen it done... and pay off... usually against me :(

Yes pot odds apply in tournaments.
However, staying alive is important as well. If you don't survive past the bubble you don't get paid. Losing all your ships is fatal, so you have to factor in survival as well.

That is, if you figure you're getting 1:1.5 on your money in an all-in pot early in a tournament, and you figure you're slightly better than a coin flip to win, it's probably best to fold and collect chips at safer opportunities.
But in a ring game, you're gleefully putting all your chips in as often as possible in that situation. If things don't go your way in a ring, you rebuy and get right back in the action.

I guess another way to put it is that in rings, over time, the reward is proportional to pot odds. This is *not* so in tournaments, which pay for finishing position, not whether or not you played a hand well. Yes the pot odds are important, but they are not proportional to the reward because a lot of other factors come into play (not the least of which being the unbalanced payout scale).

Sometimes the odds are too overpowering to ignore. But if it means all your chips or your tournement life then its a big decision. Then if you like coin flips, the call is easy. For me, if I called heads, dollars to dounuts the dam thing hits tails.

If I got the chips and the odds are good and i get a crack at busting one or more, I'm in!
