First time playing omaha.
Can anyone tell me if this is true?

So the first hand below, one play has made trips using only one of their hole cards and is declared the winner, when the other player has 2 pair using both their hole cards.

Second hand is where one player makes a straight using only one hole card but is declared the loser because the other player made two pair using both their hole cards.

Obviously I had the straight, but luckily didnt lose that much.
Is this legal rules?

Yes, this is the correct application of the rules.

In Omaha, your official hand is the best hand you can create using any two cards from among your four starting cards. So in the first example, the player used the 8 of clubs and J of clubs from his hand, giving him trip 8s with A and J kickers. In the second example, you don't have any two-card straights. You have the Q, but nothing from your hand to play with it that gives you a straight.

I HIGHLY recommend that you play VERY low stakes until you have a lot of Omaha experience. Winning hands in Omaha are MUCH stronger (two-pair is the weakest winning hand you'll see) than the winning hands in hold'em and you'll likely end up making second hand a lot until you get a feel for what the typical winning hands in Omaha are.

Good luck.

I noticed this as well. Sometimes weaker straights and flushes are even bad.

Not sometimes. Nearly always.

If you're not drawing to a hand other than the NUTS in Omaha, you will lose in the long run. Making the K-high flush is the worst thing that can happen to you as, more times than not, the A-high flush will be out there.

Drawing to weak straights and flushes is certain financial ruin.

1st hand: dont play that hand again or that type of hands, in omaha try never to play a hand if u dont have 2 same suited cards, and if u have make shore its As something, cause otherwise ur in big sh*t if u hit flush and someone have a better flush then urs, wich happens almost everytime time in omaha, not like in holdem when it almost never happens ... 2nd hand: dont play that either, and u only had A with Q kicker, as u can only use 3 cards from the board

Play a lot at low stakes or freerolls until you get used to figuring out what is going on. It is slightly different than holdem so new players often misread the situation. But it is the easiest game to beat if you know what you are doing :)

yeah, if ur gonna go for cash games without no omaha experience, other players will take advantage of u and ur gonna loose allot of money, so first month go for play money, and when u think ur good, switch to real
