I'm one of many who have almost no discipline with bankroll management. if I have $20 I'm headed to the .50/1.00 tables (if possible). Obviously I almost always go broke, but that's the way my mind works. Well, I just thought of a possible playing method for people who are completely irresponsible with their bankrolls.
Start at the lowest micro stakes you can buying in for min-buy-in (wait, hear me out). The objective is to win enough money to buy into the next level up. Then you start over trying to make it to level 3. Then level 4. If you lose it's like a video game, you have to start over at level 1 and work your way back up.
Who knows, the chance of working up and hitting it big may be enticing enough to keep you from going straight to the top level blinds.

Now I just need to win some money in freerolls so I can try it out.

I assume your money comes from freerolls, yes?

With that strategy you will always bust out. You are going to get luck and win enough to go up a level or two and your luck will run out. Wash, rinse, repeat.

It is better to be able to "beat" a level before you move. This will build your bankroll organically if you have a winning percentage at your current level. What is the point to keep moving up till you lose and start over with 0 again?

I like to have 100 times the buyin. $20 would get me a seat at a 1c/2c table with a $2 max buyin. I'd try to run it up to $6 then head out to another table. If I lost the $2, I would just play another $2 buyin 1c/2c game.

Your plan may help you last a little longer at the tables with your $20.

This is a good rule of thumb. That $2bi translates to 10% of your bankroll too. If you bust, you are not hurting too much.

I like the "run it up to $6" and get out part. God knows I have got a little big-headed and blew that pile of cash away. Need to exercise some restraint. Just take your money and walk away from the table.

If I get to level 4 and get tired and go to bed, can I save my game so I come back and restart on level 4? Or did my mom make me shut it off and I have to start all over again?

Only if you held reset while shutting the power off.

How high have you climbed the stakes doing this Jonathan? I did this back in the day (2008) and had a fair bit of success and a fair bit of failure and definitely wouldn't recommend doing it unless you know you're going to run good i.e. never!

I made it to .25/.50 once. Got up around $15 and then lost it all. Most of the time I bust out at level 2. Usually I get to level 2 a couple times, bust out, then just go back to putting all my money into the highest level I can buy into and bust out the rest. It at least keeps me from doing that on my very first hand.

If anything I play my bankroll to tight. But I do not deposit and enjoy playing for $, although it is chump change. In my opinion(rather high on myself) I am not playing to my level. I'm not saying i am ready for huge stakes and buyins, but definitly beyond the 02/04 - 05/10 I play or the $3 or $5 buyins.
