I only play SNG and want to keep that way untill I feel I can play MTT seriously, but meanwhile I like to play one freeroll table per day. It's not everyday but I try to play it when possible.

pokerstars offers this Freeroll Tournament everyday at the same time that gives 108 tickets to another tournament (with $$$ prize). As the ticket is already a good prize, lots of people play it: in average 14000 players. I never got the ticket but I usually finish in 600th to 300th position. Yesterday I finished in 175th.

Is it a good position? Am I being too weak yet, based on the position only?

Any tips on books of online tournaments to read?

Thanks.

In a regular tournament 175th out of 14000 would be fairly good and in the money.
Those big freerolls with just a few tickets available though are less about poker and more about chance.

Treating it as you do simply as something on the side, is the best way to do it.

If you want to play, learn or experience MTT seriously then you should try a more serious MTT than those type of freerolls.

I AGREE WITH THAT LAST POST

Best Way to learn is to get in the game with the real money players and put some money in the game LOSING YOUR MONEY will help you NOT WANT TO LOSE YOUR MONEY therefore you will maybe read a book practice and improve

In that tournament, end result position is not so important since no.1 is same to no.108.

Rather concentrate on your plays especially on the mid-end stage, where everyone wants to have a safe placing.

Freerolls are involved in all 90% of the fish. 50% of them do not comply with the rules of poker. 175 position is a good result. Start playing tournaments up to 500 players for $ 0.50 or $ 1 and you will know the difference. if not even come into the prize area - to gain experience which then come in handy.

50% of them do not comply with the rules of poker.

You don't have much choice about complying with the rules of poker when you play online. A lot of freeroll players don't play optimally, however - that much is guaranteed.

I find in those freerolls the chip gap is huge compared to other MTT. Last night I was around 150/2100 remaining and I had around 6k chips but there was people at my table with 30k and above. Pretty much have to play solid and run well against the big stacks to place.

In that kind of freerolls a lot of them just push into the firsts hands to double-triple-etc. so everyhand disapear more than 500players...it's a big difference between freerolls and buy-in mtt. You will see when ure playing with a little piece of $$...

Build you stack and don't get involved in a lot of preflop coin tosses. When you get below 200 players left you have to get aggressive, since the others are slowing down to protect their stacks.

these take 2 hours that big of a field?

I would play tight aggressive. I would all in with any solids to build stack so could choose which hands to play to stay around till money

Funny when saw post thought you were asking how important is position in freerolls and was going to sayy in first two hours is non existent usually till you have the group that can actually play at the end haha.

Usually my advice on tournaments is cant win in first two hours.

These and get that is only 2 a day but these seem so big of a field to me is a crap shoot? I would be wayyyyy more aggressive than normal and if lost is ok win some tickets though from that approach am sure of that
