Can someone help me with position related to the two table sizes? I have been working a lot on that subject and just need a little clarity.

On a 6 max table, functionally, UTG, EP-1 and EP are the positions you want to drop from your thinking if comparing to 9 max (or 10).

That is not a prefect solution, but close enough.

These two images might help, I'm not 100% sure on what you're asking though.

I guess what I'm asking is more of how to play position at the two different tables. I may be over-thinking the whole idea but it feels like two completely different games being 6 handed or 9 handed.

At full ring, you can play typical TAG play all the time. At 6 max, this is a game of adjustment. More of a CO, Button, BB and SB battle.
People will 3 bet you lighter if you are opening your range, You need to tighten up. Then people will exploit you once you tighten up. You have to check your image and your opponents adjustment from time to time.

In general, you play a lot tighter in 9max compared to 6 max

6max is generally looser and more aggressive than fullring, it also has more fish from my experiance but you generally can't play as many tables as you could at fullring unless you were pretty good/experianced. Good players usually have higher winrates in 6max games because their able to get into more hands against the fish. For the total beginner I'd suggest fullring

So in general I need to loosen up a bit regarding position as compared to a full ring. So maybe widen my range a bit in relation to where I am at the table and maybe increase my betting based on cards?

there's nothing complicated principle same. just from early position opens looser and more likely to have a game at a table with 6 players than the game at a table with 9 players.

The main difference between these 2 type of tables is that more hands should be played at 6 players tables. And maybe you should bet a little bit harder from early position with a strong hand while playing 9 players tables.

The biggest difference I see is is the looseness of the game and the speed the blinds come around. There are very few limped "family pots" a 6 max. because you are posting 50% more you need to open in position lighter, which leads the blinds to 3-bet more.

When i play full ring, I fold EP most of the time, waiting to get in the CO-1, CO and BT to play. In 6 max EP consists of just one seat, UTG. BTW, it takes a bigger bankroll to play 6 max
