Looking for a property is all about Location, Location, Location. In poker it is all about Position, Position, Position. The reason that position gets such a high ranking is all about knowledge. When you are first to play you have no idea what the other players are about to do, and early players are very selective in what hands they play. When you are in a late position you have a huge amount of information in which to value your hand again if needed against what has been bet.
In a nine seated table you will play three hands in late position, three in middle and three in early. The sequence if you are in the big blind is as follows,
L3, L2, L1, M3, M2, M1, E3, E2, E1 and L3. The dealer button rotates clockwise after each hand, and it is vital that you know which position you are in, in order to associate the position with the hands to play. It is a simple calculation of finding your position relative to the button. It's not difficult to figure out Late Middle and Early positions at other number seated tables.

Nice Post @rigor mortis.

I really enjoy playing from the late positions. The reason being, I have a much wider range of hands to play, & I can take advantage of late position to pressure the out-of-position players to fold. I'm pretty good @ it now. From middle and late positions you can be more liberal with hand selection than from early position which in my mind will pay off, cause you will play more hands and get more of the cards that you are looking for and therefore make more money. The skill comes in getting good @ playing from early position. If you can master that and pre-flop play then you have a winning combination.

I feel more comfortable playing in last position, I have more information about the table and I can open my range when play my cards.
I think it is a great advantage that we have to take to try to win the hand.

Late position is the best. You have enough information to read the players and to play wisely.

On the flip side, you can also lose a lot of chips from being in position. Some players will try to force early position players to fold by playing marginal hands aggressively. However, if the early pos reraises or calls with a strong hand, they can end up getting involved in pots where they lose quite a bit of their stack.

Late position is definitely the preferred and more profitable spot on the table. I still like to look for players that will roll over when I act first as well. Also, look for where you are sitting in regards to the other players. I try to make sure I am sitting to the left of the better players so that I have position on them as much as possible.

Late position is of course the most preferred position to be in, but at the microstakes that sort of gets counterfeited some with the way the players are playing at that level only concerned about the two cards they are holding. I played against a player on Saturday who had only been playing for a month and I could tell that not only did she not understand position play, but she probably had no idea what it was. Early in this freeroll she played hands that I would never play from certain positions but she managed to luck out a few times and build a huge chip lead. That inspired her to make oversized bets and go all in when she was way behind and I took advantage of that and doubled up through her when I was out of position but with the best hand. Within 20 minutes her huge stack (chip lead) had dissipated and she was eliminated.
