There are people who understand how to play pot odds and do it very well. There are also a lot of people who don’t do it very well at all. Those people can be trapped into giving over more chips than they were wanting to. Here’s how.
If you watch a player who continually bets half-pot and pot size bets to the chip then they are playing pot odds poker. If they don’t understand what they are doing, you can keep them calling in virtually any hand by betting lower than half the pot, even slightly lower than half the pot. They will look at your bet, look at the pot and think, “I have to call I have pot odds of 3.5 to 1.” If they aren’t comparing the odds of the pot vs. the odds of them winning their hand, you can lure them into calling away chunks of chips by playing the odds against them. They haven’t yet learned that Pot Odds don't do you any good with a losing hand.
