Hi poker nuts, I play on stars and often I don't get justice with their system of deciding who wins with the higher 'kicker'!! Example, both players aftyer river have a pair of kings.one with k3 other k8, the board after river reads nothing special except the king, no other pairs! The site splits the pot and the guy with k8 is clearly the winner!! Do any of u guys who play at ps ever had this situation...it seems to happen pretty often...comments??

No, pokerstars uses kickers properly. In that situation, if the board also has three cards higher than the 8 then its a split.

If both players take 5 of the 7 cards and come up with the exact same hand then the pot is split. The 6th and 7th cards are meaningless.

If the board is K 9 10 J 2 then the K8 and K3 split the pot. Each player's best five cards are the same: KK J 10 9.

Just think about which 5 card hand each player is playing. If they are the same, it's a split regardless of the players' hole cards.

Works the same if you were playing a live game. When the board has better cards than the players, they call it 'the board plays'.

For I have seen in a real life casino,
a QQ all in but little did he know
the other guy showed a pair of Kings
and he fully expected the pot to win....

Now the board played out and 5 hearts were shown
but none of the players had a heart of their own,
So they split the pot, no one got the lot
And Mr. KK let out a very loud groan

Em, no idea why I am writing in Rhymes?

As stated earlier, your hand is your best five cards. In certain cases your 8 does not count, and neither does his 3.
You have K/8
He has K/3
The board is A/Q/T/9/2
A/K/Q/T/9 = Your best hand (your 8 is not one of your best 5 cards)
A/K/Q/T/9 = His best hand (his 3 is not one of his best 5 cards)

Ditto with boards like T/T/2/2/7 where you both have T/T/2/2/K as your best five cards, or T/T/J/9/2 where you both have T/T/K/J/9.

It's just the way the game works.
I think this is a similar question to another we see here on occasion: "Three of us went all-in on the bubble, the big stack won but I had a better hand than the middle-stack so how come I didn't finish better than him and cash?"
It's just something that might appear a little wrong at first, but once you develop a feel of the game you can appreciate the reasoning behind it.

This is why it is a good idea to fold K8, you will always have a better chance of winning the hand if both of your hole cards play. So i would in general not call with a kicker lower than 10 and i would want the cards to be suited or i would fold before the flop.
Do you have a starting hand chart and do you understand the importance of position, i think these 2 things will give new players the biggest improvement in their play in the shortest time.
