For years I played on free sites with limited win results. Recently (6mo) I started live mtt's at my local casino with somewhat better results. It was not until I started paying for money that I figured out that my cards where less important than the situation. I had read 3 or 4 books but never seemed to pick this up from them. Yes position, odds, outs and so on but not so much about the newaunces. Anyone have "situational poker"advice or questions?

How you approach the game should be due to live or online, stakes and location. All will factor into your profit. From there many things that involve what you read in most books will be player dependent as well. As well as table dynamics. Then board texture, table image and range construction. Then worry about your holdings. That's the best I can give anyone looking to improve there game

I would think that "situational" play encapsulates and makes use of as much information as possible, as opposed to a "fixed" play style that only focuses on certain elements. For a lot of players, like you said, that might mean only paying attention to their cards most of the time, and in the long run that's not nearly enough. Truly situational play would factor in position, stack sizes, pot size, opponents' previous plays -- the list goes on and on. With practice it becomes easier and faster to account for many of these, leaving you more time and headspace to focus on higher-level situational elements.

I find it important to combine strong cards and a good situation. I always try to wait for strong cards and make the most of my position at the table. I am convinced that the combination of these two components will guarantee a good result.

Curious which books did you read? I've been wondering what are the best Books out today as well as Videos to look at.
