How good is your math game?

Have you made decent LONG TERM profit without playing the maths?

What, in your opinion, is the best "type" of math to learn? (Eg, probability, algebra, etc etc).

Finally, do you think math is Integral (a necessity) to show continuous long term profits in poker?

For me, my math game is very weak, I am studying again to try and improve my understanding of probability as I feel this is the best thing to learn for Poker.

I used to do basic math (Pot odds, implied odds and rule of 2&4) when I first started playing cash, and noticed alot of my leaks were fixed from doing this, but I've since gotten lazy and now am a losing player, so trying to discipline myself again.

I feel like someone could make a profit on poker long term, without using maths to their advantage, but I feel they are handicapping themselves.

Thoughts?

you need to do as much math as you can possible..
poker is mostly probability not luck.
if you dont use math you wont go that far..
why use only luck and instinct
when you can use odds and skill

I think math is an integral part of the poker game, and without you will not make money. I think when in hands you need to play the math sometimes not the cards, and if the math is in ur favor u play if it is not then fold. I have had some discussions with a buddy of mine about this, and maybe different games requires different strategies, but I do not see it that way... question does PLO8* and HOLDEM require different math????

Understanding probability is a mathematical exercise, and math involves precision and certainty. The gap still exists between certainty and probability and math doesn't bridge that gap.

Anybody who plays winning poker and says they don't use math is either lying or mistaken.

Luck is luck, but poker skill is about 75% math and 25% psychology.

There are very few people that can get by without using math. There are far more winning players that rely on math skills than those that don't. I also feel that by doing the math you will learn more about your opponents tendencies.
