Anyone ever forget about all the math and odds, labeling players for past hands, using hubs, worrying about bet size and position....and just play raw?
Like a focused, in-tuned, feeling. Like you can read the other players faces, even though you can't see them.
I don't know, I seem to win more this way, instead of trying to calculate everything.
Just wondering if anyone has experienced this, or ummm idk, lol.

The math is essential it is the groundwork. After you learn that you can play on instinct.

We cannot see faces so we have to make reads based off of player tendencies, bet size, time to act etc. that's where we the math comes in handy. We must learn the math so that it becomes second nature to us.

A lot of instinct is being in the same position before, so the more we play the more experience we get, the more refined our instinct skills become.

Mixture of both math and instinct is necessary to be successful.

Excellent reply joe and I totally agree, maths is game critical. I would add to that table image..if you are strong in both areas, you will have success in poker.

I tried it once and realized my gut was just wrong a lot. I rarely win coin flips when I am using math and when I trust my gut it got worse :)

I often catch myself playing poker instinctively.. And I agree with henriquemaduro, it doesn't lead to continuous success.

I was a bad boy at school. From math I know is how to count money. I lived in Russia at that time, a country of infringement in everything, and I opened my business and succeeded in it, my classmates were surprised at my ability. Now I live in Romania and I'm happy with it. Read about Russia in the Perm region and you will be shocked by the poverty of the area of the country in which I lived.

A good instinct is welcome at poker.I believe that there are people with sharper instinct than the others.I would say that women are like this.Women instinct generally are sharper than men.

I dont think that poker has ever been import enough for survival for nature to give us an instinct for the game. Some people might be naturally good at skills You can use at the poker table to get a read on your opponent. You might call this instinct but in the end reading your opponents can also be broken down into learnable steps for people who are not good at it.

But if "instinct" is playing 7 3 off because You "had that feeling" You would make a straight then You are probably losing out big time in the long run.

The only real way to find out if instinct play is good for you is to keep track of it exactly and see if the decisions You made based on it are +EV compared to the mathematical correct play... As long as it is you are correct to continue. But usually that wont be the case.

Hello.
Yes, it also happens sometimes when I play simply instinctively, although I understand that this is not always correct. If we play instinctive then our behavior at the table will be more like the behavior of fish in the sea.

The key to trusting your poker instincts is to follow it when you have enough ability to face your decision. However, the only time you should not rely on your instinct is when you have no prior knowledge to form your decision. So at the poker table, when you find yourself in familiar situations, trust your instinct, yes, do not be afraid .

I think its very important to listen to your instinct because there usually right. For example, say your short stacked and have AJ and thinking about shoving but you get butterflies its' usually because your about to run in to a big hand. Listen to your instincts. Choose better spot. Anytime you have a gut feeling about something listen to it.

I understand not using HUDs or player notes but I would at least use some basic math and strategy.

Intuition is often there for a reason.

There is often a good reason for our intuitions.
