Ok mates, here is a thread for Cardschat folks to post and share random poker quotes, tips, strategies, suggestions, and advice.

They need not be original nor long, but rather something you think may help a fellow CCer with their poker game. The following quote is from a book I once read (Zen And The Art Of Poker):

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles.

If you know yourself, but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat.

If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

One of the basic tenets of military strategy is: "Know your enemy"

Share yours, we won't use it against you, unless we have the opportunity. LOL

Being results oriented is the worst mistake you can make. Poker is a mathematical game, where the best play is determined by your expected value. You don't hear anyone talking about TV or temporary value or stupid crap. If your bank roll management is sound and you consistently get it in with the best hand.... DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING.... Technically your play IS working, even though your not reaping the benefits. The benefits WILL mathematically come if you play well over a very large volume of hands.

Sample size: guys.... Don't make any harsh or rash generalizations about

1. People you have been playing with for 20 hands

2. Whether or not you are actually crushing or are simply on a heater without a very large sample size.

Dont let money influence your decision making: if your uncomfortable risking a certain sum of money, you most certainly shouldn't be playing with it in the first place. Regardless of stakes, the goal of poker is to make +EV decisions. For example.... If you are afraid to GII on the bubble with AA preflop, you shouldn't be in the tournament in the first place.

Don't track amount won or amount lost over a given session. Keep playing within your BR management, and don't tilt.

Will add more later...

Here is something that was an eye opener for me, something that i used long time for my sig here to remind me of the ugly truth
If you can't beat the micros, you certainly won't beat anything higher, fact.
So if you want to move up where they will respect your raises, memorize this quote, it certainly helped me...

Double Barrel More Often
Too many players fire a shot on the flop and
universally give up on the turn. Try firing another
barrel occasionally. Players will call a flop bet with
draws, overcards, or just because they think they can
take the play away from you on the turn. Sometimes
you need to fire another barrel to take them down.

Take a couple of weeks off, then give up the game is still the best advice I never took.

Good advice! I would also add that you should do that in position, if you get called on turn too and you are oop river check can be a auto bet from villain because he might have you weak, ip you can always check back if he check...
