i dont generally read books and as i only intend to read one
This kind of confuses me. No problem if you really don't like to read, then don't read. Play a lot and learn the best you can. But to already commit yourself to only reading one book...that seems to be odd and short sighted, but whatever.
Matthew Hilger wrote a book about online poker (older book, but a good basic info start).
Ed Miller wrote Small Stakes Hold'Em, but then that's limit poker.
Dan Harrington has a great series out on NL hold'em and tournament play, but that's over 5 books...
Naming 1 book is going to be very hard because: A) There is no 1 answer to the game. B) What kind of play do you enjoy, and most of all C) Getting information from a bunch of sources can shape your style of play and make you a better all round player. I can say this: If you read one book and try and emulate that player, most likely you will screw up the nuances of the style and not be as successful as you think you should because the author obviously is fairly good at his style.
