So one of the biggest mistakes I see players make (myself included from time to time) is over confidence and over betting when they are dealt pocket anything whether it be pocket 2s or As. I don't understand why, but something about having a pair before the flop just makes you feel like you are heads and tails above the competition. However, in reality, those pocket 6s really aren't worth too much at all when you think about how easy it is for a higher pair to show up. But yet you still see people bet crazy amounts preflop with small pocket hands like that! That is usually how I see most people go out of tournaments! I guess my question is basically this: how high do your pocket cards have to be in your mind before you start to bet bigger preflop. I generally try not to call big bets unless I have 10s or higher, but I do often find myself paying a lot from time to time with lower pockets in the faint hope that I'll catch a third on the flop which we all know has pretty low odds. Thoughts?

In position , agressive with 10/10+
Out of position , limping with a small pair, raise pot or 3 / 4 times BB with QQ+.

It depend also with the blinds high at that time and the oppenement stack

With low pairs you should play cheap pots, trying to catch a set or steal from position. If you have big pairs play them agressively with reraises. Much attention on middle pairs. Very difficult to play them.

You want to get in as cheap as possible with pocket pairs, unless you are looking to steal the pot. Really depends on position and chip stacks.

Pay the minimum to see the flop. Don't go crazy with just a pocket pair. Unless you hit the trips, it will be a mediocre hand about 80% of the times you go to showdown.

think small pairs can be limped in early position(player and format dependent) and raised in later position

if you dont think you can get them to fold when you raise 22 utg or if you think they can easily push you off your hand when anything above a 2 flops...then maybe fold

pocket pairs is a made hand if you know what that means, meaning if you hit air
you still have a pair vs. holding AK where you still need to make a hand vs. a made hand
