I usually make a standard bet pre-flop with pocket pairs, including AA and KK. There are a few exceptions, notably in a cheaper tournament when I don't mind risking my entire stack early on for the chance to double or triple up with AA, KK and maybe QQ. Lots of people will shove with lower pairs pre-flop, but just one caller puts you in a coin flip position, and two or more callers puts you way behind to 4 or more over-cards and/or a slightly better pair.
Assuming that your standard bet gets you to the flop relatively cheaply, then my next move depends a lot on the board and what villain is doing. Something like AcKh7c tends to put me in shutdown mode when I'm holding something like 6d6s, for example. Although lots of people try to do otherwise, I don't think that you're going to last too long if you play your lower pocket pairs too aggressively post, unless you hit a set on the flop.
