Any pocket pair is more likely to win before the opening of the flop, and even more jacks.
For example, here is a comparison coinflip
22> AK (suited)
chance: 22
win = 49.94%
Tie = 0,70
odds: AK
Victory: 49.36%
Tie = 0,70

Ie at a distance, any pocket pair will profit, but of course it can not be done all in against 2 or more opponents

There are three ways to play pocket Jacks and they are all wrong :D :D :D it aint a weak hand, it just loses to a lot of hands if u push allin preflop, and guess when u have the biggest chance to win with it, is up against one player all in pre flop :D :D :D so u have to pay attention, u should always play them up against a loose player, tight players will always call u down with the best hand, and thats my advice how and when to play pocket Jacks :D

Pocket Jacks, along with AQ, is my LEAST favorite hand. When I look down and see pockets Jacks, I cry on the inside. I fold JJ a lot.

In tourneys you must look on your blinds and the stage of tourney and of course with who you playing.

I despise pocket jacks. It's a hand that I would never shove preflop in a cash game. Pockets jacks should be played very conservatively IMO unless a set is flopped.

I think that this sums up this topic appropriately. 😉

For what it's worth though, it's a hand that you might have to play as a semi-bluff more than you might want to. Think about it, even if an over card comes out on the flop, your hand is still going to be good enough of the time to make that bet. It's the overcard that makes it a semi-bluff. Don't be afraid to barrel at the pot because you will induce folds enough of the time to make it work.

In a tournament situation where I need a double-up, I'm happy to see Jacks and won't hesitate to shove them.

Holdem Pocket Jacks

I see a lot of people are commenting "i always do" or "i never do" - i dont think thats the right way to approach this... too many variables. Your position, opponents left to act and their strength, previous bets, etc. Each situation is different.

Totally agreed.
I don't always fold pocket jacks. But when I do, I'm not drinking Dos Equis.

Disclaimer: I have never drank Dos Equis.

I see pocket Jacks pre-flop like any pocket pair, just better than most. I play them to set-mine mostly, and on the off chance that an over-card doesn't hit the flop. In the latter case I play then very aggressively on the flop, but otherwise I play them as carefully as I can get away with. The problem with this hand is that it LOOKS really good, when in reality it can get you into trouble very easily.

Yeah I just lost with pair jacks to 5 high straight, but there was 3 or more all in, so couldn't be worst

Generally, I play them like any middle pair (9s or 10s), but it depends on position and villains at the table. Sometimes they will end up being top pair on the flop, sometimes you will hit a set, sometimes it will be AKrag and you will end up folding them like they were pocket 6s. Semi-bluffing with them if you have the betting lead can sometimes work as well. JJ and AQ are both hands you need to be careful with, but they can do well in some situations.

they are definitely not my fav hand to start with. i generally just play them very passively and not try to build a big pot unless i hit a set. tbf, i even don't like qq's! lol

jacks really depend on who you're playing against, if your opponent is an agro fish get it in preflop, otherwise be cautious, consider flatting preflop if its already raised

Why do some of yall hate Jacks? Yeah a lot of hands can beat it but it's really not that hard of a hand to play and beats a lot of other hands as well. It all depends on the situation. JJ looks REALLY good when your short stack. It beats being dealt 2,2 or any other small pair that can be beat. late position you either raise or flat a raise. Big stacked it's an easy call against a much shorter stack. Don't be scared of the fish hooks, they just like any other hand all about how you play them.
