I decided to diversify the games that I play and recently started playing PLO. I have played before but I have very little experience as far as number of hands played.

The first thing I noticed is that I can see the swings in this variant can be huge, It definitely plays very differently then no limit holdem. I like the action though and it is a fun game to play. I hope that I can become a decent Omaha player without losing a ton of moola but it will be still be fun none the less. Any one have any suggestions or advice for a rookie at this version of poker that will be helpful on the felt?

You are going to find a lot more bad PLO players than NL holdem.

People think poker is poker, but PLO turns into 3d chess very quickly. Generally, PLO is a game of straights, flushes, full houses. Its a game of draws and re-draws.

Start from the beginning and learn the hand strengths. Play tight and bet the pot with good hands. I personally would start with the top 30 hands.

When you start playing good tight Omaha, you will be surprised how bad the villains are (most people don't even know what the top 5 starting hands are, let alone 30).

Yeah, there are a ton of bad players. I'm not even good, but I routinely see people playing way worse than I am.
