Got a bit bored the other night, decided to give PLO a go (I know how to play it and I know about hand ranks etc in PLO, but I've never actually played it)
I went in to a .25/.50 game for a bit of a laugh with $50 to see how we go.

I've played about 250 hands, gotten 30VPP (almost at chromestar, woohoo!) and gone from $50 to $150 with a few small pots and only 1 or 2 big wins. I've barely lost many pots at all and my % to win at showdown is around %85. I find that I see the flop over %60 of the time, which seems high to me? I'm generally a NLHE player and I don't normally see %60 of flops there.

The question is though, have I just found a game I actually have a knack for? Or is the PLO skill level quite low compared to NL players? If I played NLHE at .25/.50 I'd guarantee I'd get eaten alive, but for PLO I'm actually incredibly comfortable at these stakes.

It could be a chance that I'm just on the biggest heater i've ever been on, on pokerstars, but it honestly feels like I'm making the best calls and folds and raises I can possibly make and when I screw up I analyze and fix my leaks instantly.

Like you I've recently switched from NLHE to PLO and for the first 5k or so hands I had a winrate of something ridiculous like 30bb/100.

Thing is with PLO there are HUGE swings. And edges are very small. You very rarely need to fold pre as you almost always have a decent amount of equity. You will be flipping constantly and so if you're running good you'll be doing very well. Conversely if you start losing your 55/45's things look very different. As I've recently discovered... :(

Good luck on those PLO streets!

placed 3rd in a $33 PLO turbo today on stars for a 1.5k GTD price, 68 runners, $300 for 3rd place. Not gonna complain for a game I've got less then 1000 hands experience in!
