Hey guys, I'm pretty much a one trick pony(I pretty much only play NLHE) and I'm thinking of branching out and learning different games. I've played PLO a few times and its seems pretty cool. Any CCers any good at Omaha? Any tips for a noob?

I suggest not learning it and going straight 2-7td. PLO will consume your soul

lol, poker in general has consumed my soul.

Re plo a great thread with some basic stuff and a link to an old plo cash thread in there as well that is a great review to give some info etc.

I don't really know if there are a lot of PLO players on cc, but there are a few and some who enjoy the game. I enjoy it and have been playing it here and there the past few weeks.

Edit: Thread should look familiar to you marginal ;)

PLO or PLO8? I prefer the latter. Looks like BD2 has already gotten you started with a good thread.

Just remember that PLO(8) and HE are two different beasts and require two completely different strategies.

Greater degree of math in PLO8, more variance, position is even more vital, and lots of action (the hand almost always changes on the turn). The biggest tip that I can give you is to play the nuts or as close to the nuts as possible. 2 pair almost never wins; trips rarely win; and it's quite normal to see flush over flush, set over set, etc.

Good luck :)

I love PLO and especially PLO/8. You have to be thinking with 2 endpoints in PLO8 as it is a split pot game. Nothing is better when you out play a fish and scoop the pot. But that means you MUST have decent hole cards. They have to be able to work both hi, Ax broadway and low, A2-4(depending on position and table make up) and the flop will either brighten your soul, or you will fold out.

PLO newbies ususally get pointed to Jeff Hwangs books and I like them. Granted you do not hit the hands he refers to alot. Especially in 6mx as that is a free for all. Have a good bankroll for the variance. Because you can be miles ahead on the flop, and by the river, you can be a pauper. You will see fish hold out hope to get a full house and sometimes hit it.

Good luck!

PLO is one of the drawing games.

Higher luck involve compare to holdem.

Add to that, players are so loose they want to chase their draws.

Very few times you will make nutted hands on the flop. Don't be surprised when people call and end up redrawing on the turn or river.

In PLO8, got to be aware when people are playing for low. Your main goal is to scoop the pot (hi and lo half)

Thank you for all the responses! I'll read up on that thread take your tips to heart. Hoping to keep what's left of my soul intact, but poker has already consumed most of it lol. I haven't tried O8 yet, the split pot kinda intimidates me but I'll give anything a try!
