Its possible and definitely doable, but having a hud is definitely more profitable than not having. There was few the times when i search for the free ones, fpdb is one nice, hem cloud was free back then not sure, I've heard of Jivaro or something that people mentions from time to time...

I Do use Jivaro sometimes, when playing from my wife's PC. It's a good one but yet I'm a noobie and can't tell what exactly to do with that information except for seeing who plays many hands and who is really tight.

Once I reach $100 profit I will consider paying Holdem Manager or any other..

I managed to get fpdb working. It's a challenge indeed. basically you need to install everything that's required on the list (lol sounds obvious). Only after you installed all those python plugins it's going to work. It's really handy though because I'm just a poor student that doesn't have 80 dollars laying around to buy Pokertracker or Holdemmanager

Biggest two HUD's (free) are Jivaro and fpdb.

You can always poker without hud, but be aware that you're giving up a bit of an edge vs your opponents (especially if they do play with a hud)...

the maximum profit you can obtain only with HUD, and you have to use HUD, if you want to play at higher stakes.

Jivaro offers a basic free version that will give you what you need at the micros.

Use HUD should be prohibited simply because it gives the player a huge advantage about those who do not use.

You need to ask yourself if you going to take poker as a serious hobby or just a casual one. I said what I'm about to say many years ago.

Poker is the only hobby where you can actually make money. Every other hobby costs you money. For example, I love golf and target shooting. Two hobbies that cost me a lot of money. Sure there's side bets here and there, but they will never cover the cost of greens fees, golf balls, ammo, shooting range fees ect.

Like any hobby, there's an upfront cost to get the proper equipment to be able to enjoy it regularly. In online poker specifically, you need a decent computer and internet connection, a proper bank roll and the proper hud software and training tools. All of these things require money. Sure, almost everyone has a computer and internet these days, so that part should be easy. But I also ran three monitors with four tables each back in the day. I recommend saving money outside of poker and putting it towards your poker hobby, buying the tools you need.

With that being said, I took about four years away from poker. I got engaged, moved back to my home state of Colorado and got Married! My monitors didn't make the move and my old laptop I used is now obsolete. So I'm playing with a new laptop with a 15 inch screen. It's possible to four table, but on ACR it's hard to see sometimes so I two table most of the time. I plan on poker being a casual hobby and I do not intend to purchase or use a hud at all. I plan to play micro sit n goes, maybe some .05nl from time to time, and I do like the $2 jackpot poker games on ACR. I find those to be fun and rather easy to win 2 of 3. I also plan to play in some bigger MTT's. In the past I found a hud to be rather useless in MTT's, as most of the players you see in those, you've never seen before, so you're mining data on them. If I remember correctly, HUD's aren't that great of a tool until you have 100 hands on them. The more hands you have the better!

So, to wrap this up. If you're serious, save some money outside of poker and purchase a HUD. If you're just going to do this as a casual hobby, don't worry about a HUD. Yes, you can be successful without a HUD, as long as you keep it down to only a handful of tables.

Hope that helped.

The Players Champ is back!

I actually recommend it for micro stakes, in order to master the game at its core. HUDs are useless to players that aren't already successful at poker. You at least need to have the basic skill to tag player types without assistance, determining equity, mastering position playing, pre-flop play, etc. When you have a pretty solid understanding of those concepts, that's when you should use a HUD.

I play 4 tables without HUDs all at once and profit, so take that information for what it is.

the answer is yes, you can be play and make money without a HUD. The HUD allows for you expose holes in someones else game to push those small edges and is also excellent to look at at your own game and tidy it up. So if you have no HUD how should you approach it? firstly you need get some general population reads for the stakes/games for example micro stakes cash player usually call to wide and passively, are positionally unaware, C-bet to often and never ever ever defends there blinds wide enough. If you bear this in mind when playing and apply to all you have a good start. The next step is to begin to drill down and start taking notes on players, how tight are they, what are they willing to get it all in pre with, how aggressive are they post flop, etc.these are where you will improve as a player and be able to gain the bigger edge on other players. Always try to carryout hand reviews and really scrutinize each decision as this is where you will tighten your game a have your ah ha moments.

I play using Jivaro, its a simple set up and install. I also have Holdemmager but its way to complicated to use and keeps corrupting on me, Their staff take forever to write back, and its always the same answers so I just dont bother with it anymore, even though I spent money on it

Can you imagine the possibility of using a HUD for live games? For example, play six tables with 9 players at same time with special glasses that can record the hand history of your opponents?

I think before thinking of playing with HUD you need to understand it and to make it happen, you need to learn to play without him. Yes, there are many free softs 30-day trial, there is also the possibility to use them as often find necessary before buying it by changing the account from your operating system after you confident that the hud will help buy a key . Good luck.

Thank you for that reply.

I mean right now I'm complete newbie so I think poker is only casual one. I'm trying to win CC freeroll and after that make profit on micros. Maybe later I'll think about buying HUD but like you said guys now It'll not make a lot of change in my game. When I focus on the opponents I'll be good.

For practice, I don't play with a HUD since I mainly play live. HUDs don't work too well on Bovada, and I don't think ACR has any free options.

I always played without HUD and always got along well , the point is that I play a few tables at once , so I can pay attention to all , but there is a free HUD who say it is good, the Jivaro , worth checking out.

Are the HUD necessary ?

Does the use of a HUD really necessary to be a profit player ? I mean, a player who wants to make big money from poker.

IMO for cash games is very important. When I'm watching guys playing micro/low stakes informations they can get from using HUD are the key ( what player type he is ) and ofc spots where for example guy has 80% fold to cbet you know that's profitable to fire with nothing because percentage is so high or villain's stats look like he's very passive and he re-raises us on the flop , that's the spot where 90% this guy will have nuts ( if you don't have HUD you'll not recognise that unless you're watching guy very closely or making notes)

I used to play without a HUD, until I discovered how handy it can be. I use the free version of Jivaro and I feel I'm losing a lot of information that can be used in my decision making whenever I play without now.
I wonder if you always, and for a long time, play with a HUD and then you play some live poker if it has an influence on your live game quality?
I mean, you become so used to it, that you don't pay attention to certain things anymore, because it is saved by your HUD. So after a while you lose that skill and you won't be able to use it anymore in live games either until you recover it. Anyone experienced this, or do you have no problems with this at all?
Feels a bit like driving with a GPS. A lot of people can't do it without anymore and can't find any destination in an unknown area, just because they are so used to have one and lost their skill to navigate without.
