So what have you had success with? Which is easier to make a profit in your opinion?

Also is there anything wrong with playing both? I have heard people say that you should figure out which one your better at and stick with it but do you guys see anything wrong with mixing it up?

I would agree with this whole-heartedly.. figure out where your biggest cashes are then follow it..

There is always more at risk in a cash game.. In a tournament you're somewhat limited to what you can lose.. My suggestion would be to start there..

then if you find out you're successful use some of your winnings on the cash side :thrasher:

I like the tournament because there is a cap on your losses: your buy in.

You know that no matter how you play any given hand, the worse outcome is getting knocked out of that particular tournament and financially, you should have only lost a fraction of your bank roll.

Depending on the level of blinds, a cash game can eat into your stack real fast. Unless you are at a $0.01/$0.02 table, but that's not even poker you are playing then, so that doesn't count!

I think of a tournament as multiple bets under the umbrella of a single actual bet. It combines elements of the lower/known financial risk of a cap game with the true all or nothing elements of Hold 'Em.

That being said, I understand true cash games are where it is at for the skilled players. I guess that is who ends us with all the money from Donks like me!!!

Mix it up

Thanks guys for the feedback!
. I tend to do better in mtt, I have been grinding large freerolls for the past year and tend to run off to the ring games when I cash. Which has been my br demise. But after losing much of my br to ring games I have settled down a bit and have had luck in some sng's a three table 27 player sng seems effortlessly after the large freeforalls. But I do hit some ring games but with a set limit for loss or gain. So like previously said go with your best game be it cash or mtt, sng mix it up a bit, But br mgt is key. Ring games can and will generate roi quicker but the loss factor can be just as quick. Good luck. Bigbigbucs

If you're grinding out a few bucks in freerolls then losing it in ring games, presumably at micro-stakes, it doesn't mean a whole lot. You can't lose money in freerolls, so it's more important to look at win rate.

As for what to play, play whatever you enjoy. If you get to where the difference in expected value is large enough to factor into your decision process, cool. But while you're playing on a small BR, have fun. Your game probably needs work in general before fine-tuning questions such as MTT vs SNG vs ring start to increase more sharply in importance.

I have actually not played any ring games online. These past few months I have been trying to win some free money, which I did in a CC freeroll on Carbon. I won 6 bucks and built it up too a 11 or 12 bucks by playing double up games and then lost almost every bit of it playing higher stakes double up games. I had exactely 30 cents left on my account so I decided to play the quarter quickly tourney last night ( you need exactly 30 cents for the BI.) 116 played in it and I won the whole thing. Im going to stick to mainly tournies for a little while, which I decided that before I played the quarter quickly.

Thanks for all the feedback!
