I have played a lot in 6 person tables and the game is very different compared to full table. Because you are SB or BB 33% of the time compared to 20% of the time, you are in a lot more
hands. People at these short handed tables play a lot wider range of hands, where I've found that many people at Full table will only play premium hands.
In tournaments, blinds towards the end of the tournament become a huge part of the game. When you get down to the last 5 or 6 players, stealing a few blinds becomes very important. If you wait until you get premium pocket cards, then you will get "blinded out". My strategy is to wait until I have position and try to steal blinds with good hands (not premium) and then try to win some hands against others who are trying to steal my blinds.
