I'm giving a try on omaha and I need some tips. Anybody could tell me the basics (best hands, etc) and what types of omaha exist and explain them. Also what is diferent from NL hold'em? [offtopic: how many BB's should I buy in for micro cash games?]

PLO (pot limit omaha) is the most common variant. A pot size bet is the biggest bet you can make, but it's very easy to get stacks in when you get re-raised.

These are the best hands in order (all when double suited)

1. A-A-K-K 11. K-Q-J-T 21. Q-Q-A-K 2. A-A-J-T 12. K-K-T-T 22. Q-Q-A-J 3. A-A-Q-Q 13. K-K-A-Q 23. Q-Q-A-T 4. A-A-J-J 14. K-K-A-J 24. Q-Q-K-J 5. A-A-T-T 15. K-K-A-T 25. Q-Q-K-T 6. A-A-9-9 16. K-K-Q-J 26. Q-Q-J-T 7. A-A-x-x 17. K-K-Q-T 27. Q-Q-J-9 8. J-T-9-8 18. K-K-J-T 28. Q-Q-9-9 9. K-K-Q-Q 19. Q-Q-J-J 29. J-J-T-T 10. K-K-J-J 20. Q-Q-T-T 30. J-J-T-9

Buy-in for 100bbs and look to make the nuts or close to the nuts to have any chance of winning the hand.

Omaha is nut poker. You determine a hands strength in Omaha by its ability to make the Nuts. Flushes, top set ect..
You prefer all four cards to work together in someway. For example KQJT
and not KQJ3. The 3 doesnt help your hand it is a dangler.
Because there are so many draws you need to make your opponents pay to draw. Pot it!
Every form of poker is complexe, my advice is choose a game or two and learn it.
I read one of JeffHwang books it did not make me a winner playing omaha, so dont expect it to. But you can get some useful information from reading it.
gl at omaha!

I've been trying to get a better understanding of omaha* myself. Problem is where I live there isn't a live game near me.

Maybe you should wait until you know the game a bit better before playing for money (even if it is micro stakes) ? poker stars has regular omaha freerolls (where I learnt the basics of the variants of the game).

Above all you gotta always remember that YOU MUST PLAY TWO CARDS FROM YOUR HAND.

Got that? Don't look at four hearts on the board, with you holding the Ah. And the Ah only.

TWO CARDS

Is that rule only for flushes or do I always have to use 2 cards? I have played some freerolls but I think I will stay with NL hold'em where I'm a winning player. Maybe I give a try to PL hold'em or 5 card draw where I have more experience. Does iPoker has 5 cards draw?

Always have to use 2 cards, no more, no less. Always 2.

Whew, that's a relief. I got brain damage trying to read the first one lol
LMAO:D :D :D :D . ME TOO. i wanted to add the power of mid suited connectors in omaha which were not in the chart.

hands like 3456 or 5678 are destroyers and could make you alot of money if the board doesnt pair and low cards come out.

ANY 4 CONSECUTIVE CARDS IN PLO ARE DESTROYERS. TRY TO PLAY THE ONES THAT ARE DOUBLE SUITED BUT BE CAREFUL IF YOU HIT A FLUSH AND IT ISNT THE NUT FLUSH.

omaha hands

i'm sort of new to Omaha also. unless i'm in blinds or CO, i'll only play hands that have pocket pairs 8's and above, high suited cards, and A 2. if it's hi/lo, i won't call unless my low's A 2 3 4 5..the low rule confuses me often.
