Launching a discussion for the galley:

You hear a lot about playing in the limits your bank supports, right! For example, if I have $ 100, I should play in the limits of up to $ 1.00. This is to do correct banking management.

But a player came to me and asked if this is correct in all cases. In his example, he manages and plays in the limits of $ 0.10 $ 0.25 and $ 0.50 respectively. But he says he plays in the most correct way possible and suffers bab beats like never before before.

As he thinks the limit involves many inexperienced players (and consecutively "lucky"). He says he is discouraged and thinking of climbing upwards by forcing his bank to play against more "serious" players.

Would that be correct since he has a great general knowledge to be a medium winner?

Let's help the boy! I want to collect several ideas here to be able to give a good answer and really help him to solve his problem and to keep going!

I would certainly agree that you will see more bad beats at lower levels than you will at higher stakes. Reason being is the volume of poor plays at that table. When you play with weaker players, they are going to put themselves in bad situations more often. A better player is not going to "gamble" or will realize and fold when they are a big dog and not getting the price they need to play. A low stakes player might not know or even care. They just want the action and thrill of the chance to hit.

Therefore, if you see (and just picking a number) players putting themselves at a big disadvantage 5 times more often, you will see them suck out 5 times more often. For example let's use the below numbers when a player is 4-1 to lose:

Medium stakes game
100 * 20% = 20 hands that hit

Low stakes game
500 * 20% = 100 hands that hit

So yes it is true that you are seeing it happen more often, but you need think, "What is happening on all those hands they are not hitting?"

YOU ARE TAKING THEIR MONEY!

Low limits are not the place to be fancy or try to outplay your opponents. Playing straight forward poker will usually be enough to make your opponents make enough mistakes to generally dump their stack to your side of the table. Let them.
You will find some decent players though and need to watch them, but that is easier than watching 3 or 4 or whatever you may find at a higher limit table.

The other big reason for playing within your bankroll is variance. Losing a buck out of $100 is no big deal. Losing $25 takes out a good part of your stack. If you have an off night, face a good player or just get unlucky a few times, you may not have a bankroll left after a few buy ins.

If you have a bankroll that you can't add to or replenish if you lose then you will want to follow strict bankroll management so not to go broke.

If you are able to re-deposit then play whatever you feel like playing.

If you are playing by strict bankroll management it is OK to take shots occasionally just don't make them too big or too often.

Good Luck!

It is important to feel comfortable when you play any limit. That in case of loss of money, it does not greatly affect you.

What a great point!

What limit out there that is safe from the best and the worst??? Very good question but it doesn't make much sense if you're not playing your cards well. It doesn't matter where you go, trust me you will find people that play emotionally, on tilt, bullying, etc. - No matter what limit you are playing.

My advice is to play in your comfort zone and never leave it. If the price is too high, don't buy it.

It all boils down to variance. Given that a percentage of the time you will see sub-optimal outcomes, you need to have a large enough bankroll (and a high enough win-rate) to overcome this.

You have your poker bankroll and I hope also a personal bankroll no? If you cannot rebuy so play the low buy ins and strictly according to the banking management rules. If you can rebuy start to play the higher limits and you might not need to rebuy if you are not that unlucky anymore...
