Hello everyone!

Ive been playing off and on for 5 years, but don't have a lot of actual time on the felt or online.

One thing I have noticed is that when I get into a game with a super aggressive player, i immediately start to tense up and I do get run over a lot. I play very passive when this happens and have found that I do much better in a game where I can be aggressive (even though its not my nature).

I would love to hear how you combat players like this because when I face them I tend to either fold almost everything or if I do have something like J10 off suit and call pre-flop, I will pretty much always fold if anyone makes an aggressive bet after the flop (unless I pair up or have an open ender)

I play holdem and the game that this applies to most is the $3-$6 NL game at our local casino.

thanks so much for the help. Anxious to hear what you have to say.

best to you,

Rick

TAG I guess and value bet with good hands.
If he is aggro as you say most likely he is raiseing wide + betting 2nd,3rd paids 2-3 streets, your top paiк О on the flop might be good

Actually, you should play loose passive poker against these types. It sounds counter-intuitive, but you have to widen your calling range, be willing to call down a weaker range and keep letting them try to bluff you out when you hold hands strong enough to call as bluff catchers.

Usually, these players will back off when you show strength and you will just get them to fold their junk and they will play back at you with their strong range. You want to set up the environment where they are making plays at you with their entire range, including their junk, when you can call and beat their bluffs.

This is really scary to play this way and it can be high variance, but it is profitable in the long run.

Be patient and bet only good hands. Eventually the over aggressive will go down.

Agresive players invest big money in pots. This means they are loose or over bet theyr hands. U should just keep calm and try and trap them with good hands.

thanks so much for the input asedu, jjpregler, ScottieDuncan, yurok42, CallmeFloppy and Ac 3Meister. Appreciate it!

Great advice! I will try to show aggressiveness when Ive got something that could hold up and watch and learn how the super aggressive guys react to that.

thanks again!

relax

I relax and don't worry about making moves... I make it a point not to bet because I know they will take the lead... They seem more comfortable in the lead... So let them be in the lead... I don't limp in preflop either never especially out of position that's just a good way to donate chips to their cause.

Great tips, That is pretty much what i do. I only play good starting hands, When i hit i let the aggressor take the lead and just call to the river. If i am first to act I place a good bet, if they are first to act I normally hesitate and re-raise. This normally works a couple times before they catch on. Then it is time to shift gears and take over, start bulling them till they learn and starts to fight back.

Yes it is cat and mouse.

It is best to know your opponent and find out what tactics work best for which situation.

It sounds like you are scared of losing money and therefore playing too passively. You should play only the sums that you are comfortable losing, else it starts to affect your play.
The way to counter super aggressive players is to pick your spots, 3bet them preflop in position and if you manage to get a huge hand, try to trap them.
