Know when you're sitting at a table with gamblers. Gamblers are players who, when they see a big bet, instead of folding because the bet is big, they think to themselves, "Oh, if I get lucky that'll be a big pot". If you make an aggressive pre-flop raise it may work against you if you have even a single "gambler" sitting at your table. All it takes is 1 caller to put your chips at risk. If you know you've got gamblers at your table, try to find their risk vs reward low-point. For instance, a raise of 1000 against a 5000 stack gambler may get them salivating for the pot, but a bet of 200 may make them think twice about calling. 200 may be enough to get them to fold, but not so much that they think it's worth a gamble. You wanna find that sweet spot that makes them go, "Eh, it's not worth it" instead of "Eh, screw it, I'm all-in".
