Any general tips? I'll only play it late/OTB/SB/BB if there hasn't been a raise. My main question is how to play it when I hit the ace on the flop and I'm in early position. Do you bet 3-4 BB (assuming only 2-3 players are left) and see if someone calls/reraises? What if all they do is call--how do you play the turn? Thanks!

For me, I only play ace rag when its suited or if its just BB but if someone raises before me I would fold it. Unless its heads up then that is a different story.

Heads up is a different story.Any ace is strong so raising is the right option,

I'd only raise ace rag on the button and c-bet sometimes depending on reads on my opponents, the board, my chip stack, and the situation in the tournament.
Of course if I'm shortstacked late in a tournament I'd probably shove any ace from any position if I'm low enough on chips.

Otherwise, I'm not calling any raises preflop from the blinds with ace rag.

Thank you all for the advice!
@Lucothefish--I should have specified. I usually play tournaments or SnGs.

Ax has a lot of value later in the game when you're in the push/fold stages, and ICM calculators can back me up on this one.

ten big blinds or under im shoving any ace and position.
early on I only play it late position, and preferably suited.
I certainly will not limp with it,if im playing it im raising with it,just to get a range on villians hands.
If im bet into on flop odds are im folding, depending on my chip count and how much the bet is.
Most of the time if not played causiously ace rag will more than likley get you into alot of trouble.
Be willing to fold top pair easily with out investing alot of chips.

Tournaments eh? I tend to play Ace-rag quite a lot and I'm definitely showing a profit with it, but you should do as I say and not as I do ;)

It's good for a steal but not much else until the table gets short handed, then you really need to play it more. You should be cbetting A high flops whether you hit them or not, and as for when you get called/raised - well then you start playing poker, too many variables to answer 'I has TP, what do?' properly.

Hard to play A/rag , unless u get to see the flop for free/cheap.Or if you are about to blind out in a tourney & heads up with another player then push it preflop.

Thanks for all the replies. I've definitely cut back on how often I play at and think I'm better of for it :)

It's good to play it head to head. I think 50% equity b/c a good chance the single opponent will not have pairs.

Are you talking suited or unsuited?

I think your kicker should always be greater than the number of players
left to play after you

I will raise from the SB or OTB and if the action is folded around to me. The chances are that you are ahead heads up, but going to be way behind if 4+ players are in the hand! Otherwise, just call, much, or raise to 2 BB. However, I wouldn't raise often with this, but it is a descent hand to semi-bluff with if you have a tight image.

If nobody raises Ace-rag can also be played from the button in early tournament play. I used to always fold them here, but have found that if you are careful the button can be used to win many hands by light bluffing. So often everyone checks to the button and folds on a 1-2BB raise. Having Ace-Rag is a good way of reading other ace holders from the button as well.

I hate Ace-huggers, but they have their place. An A-2 will beat a KQ 55% of the time, so it is not a horrid hand.

The button is abut stealing blinds and bluffing and ace rag often suits just fine.
