Hello,
I play poker with some friends (17 guys) and we don't know if we have to give cards when someone is out of the table (out for some minutes, have a cigarette, toilet ....)
Thanks in advance

No, they can sit out for a hand or two, no need to deal them a hand.

If it's a tourney then I think they need to be dealt cards especially when they are in the SB and BB, as their blinds need to be put in.

^^ Very true, they would still need to post blinds in a tourney and if a cash game they would need to wait for the next BB or post the blinds if they missed them. No need to physically deal the cards if they are not present though is there?

Yes, we are playing a tourney, 10 games (2 games/month) with points for the top 10 players.

When the sit out player is SB or BB, the Dealer puts the blind on the table.

The discussion we have is: if the cards are on the table we have less cards in the pack then less possibilities to who is playing get a good hand.

Do you know if there is a poker rule for this situation?

I am of the opinion that I want the cards I was meant to have, so if you don't deal someone in and I am the next person in turn I would get his cards.

I hope that makes sense.

It does make sense, and fair enough, I don't think it would bother me though.

Typically cards are dealt to sitters in tournaments since blinds are forcibly posted and the player may show up before his first action gets to him. In the live poker rooms I've played, they're not usually dealt and when the sitter returns they have to wait until next hand (and then either wait or post blinds if they missed them).

As to probabilities and getting other people's cards, honestly that's results-oriented rubbish, although I understand the human nature to want to attach significance to it. The whole concept of random distribution makes it irrelevant. It's the same concept when counting outs regardless of how many people are dealt in, because all you know are your cards -- so you count total unknown cards regardless of whether they're still in the deck or not. Same thing when people get upset over static vs dynamic shuffle online -- it doesn't matter or change probabilities because you didn't know the outcome to begin with. Or people who fold a trash hand that flops the nuts and get upset about it or change future decisions based on that. Or rabbit hunt for any more than pure entertainment value.

They're all pointless, results-oriented exercises that you should really avoid distracting yourself with.
