For me, I will play few hands in early tournament that you knew your always ahead against aggressive players in early tournaments.You can dominate them easily, playing more hands advisable having more BB and table image is so important and position.

The choice of the hand is very important. Especially when you're just starting to play.

I am a tournament player 95% of time i play them and in start when blinds are acceptable i try to see as manny flops as possible with mediocre cards cuz by my opinion isnt a waste to give up 20BB 30 40 even as call with let say 67 if i hit 1 hand from 5 i will return the invested chips i dont play every hand i admit that playing decent cards in start of tournament is what i do cuz midd or late stage you cant affoard to play that kind of cards anyway.In start to call 20 with a pair no matter wich1 doesnt hurt and if you hit set ok if not so be it anyway you wont have 10 pairs in first hands to be bad caller
