Hi everyone, pokerpro, whenever I watch poker or converse with some players this question is told by them. Avoid one of the worst mistakes of a poker player, give up the best hand. Of course for an experienced poker player, this is a fairly simple question, though, and for starters, how can we help them walk the right path? Comment and reply at will guys, after all, we want to play in Cardschats !

better to give up unless you know something

give up what might be the best hand outplay opponent later . Play the worst hand there is no later .pretty straight forward .

so what are the odds you have the best hand and what are your opponents stats . figure that out then make your play . when you make the right decision more often then the wrong one weeeee your making money finally

To quote Amarillo Slim Preston, “If you can’t fold the best hand you can’t play.”

Also, pay with the worst hand? That sounds like the dumbest possible option no matter what. I feel like this is meant to say hero call with a bad hand.

There is no worst hand or best hand, there are only two cards. You can play 2 random cards as a bluff, and even AA can be those cards. But they are neither the best or worst, they are just 2 cards.

Its how you bet and what your position is before you look at cards, that determines the value of any card.

Good Luck as they say, is only a kiss away.

There is no better or worse hand, look at the formula you are looking for, it does not exist. Actually it's not a formula, but an algorithm that compares millions of simulations. For example, you have AKs and want to know the equity (how many times you will win) against a range of 4.8% (99+, AJs +, AK, KQs). The calculator will simulate your hand against all of your opponent's range on millions of random tables, testing in this way how many times you will be a winner, a loser or a tied hand,Many players are not sad when they drop an unbeaten hand as we usually call AA-KK-QQ
These players are able to have a deeper assessment of the game, such as opponents, aggression, flop cards, to analyze if their cards, even being one of the best hands, has the potential to win, only experienced players can do and detect for us mortals , Just try to learn from our mistakes and correctness

I think the flop really tells you if you have a good hand or not.

Think JC Tran said it best " A bad fold is better than a bad call."

It all depends on the cards on the flop.

it's all about stack managing, sometimes you can call with garbage or even push if you have a big stack and/or your opponents are in a tough situation. bad starting hands are real strong if you connect 2 pairs or better after flop.

Hi all,

First time caller, long time listener.

Through university athletics and the business world afterward, I learned two very important lessons. The first lesson is 'To train with purpose'. The second lesson is 'data to information; information to knowledge; knowledge to wisdom'. I have come to believe that both are connected.

My university coach told me that you can come to practice everyday, but if don't go through the steps to make it wisdom, you will always be 'stuck' at your current level. My bosses afterwards, more or less, said the same thing.

You can read all the poker books in the world, you can watch all the YouTube views you want, but if you don't turn the data contained within both of those forums (or the data within this forum for that matter) you will always be 'stuck' right where you currently are.

That said, I believe the question really being asked, is how can you get to a point in your poker understanding to know when to lay down your hand and/or when to call with the worst of it?

My answer is this: get a mentor, coach, a friend that shares the same passion for poker that you have, and start the conversation. Look at some of the various hand postings on the web (or even on this forum) and begin to question (from both the winning and losing hands perspective) why the hand played out that way. With the ultimate goal of extracting chips, how could the winning hand have played differently to extract more chips? How could the losing hand have played differently to lose less chips?

By turning the data contained within those hand postings, by learning the information contained within poker books (odds of flopping a flush for example), you will begin to gain knowledge of the game in a meaningful way. It will only be then, that you will have gained the wisdom to know whether you should fold to a runner runner straight or call a runner runner flush; it will only be then that you will be able to separate the wheat from the chaff, regardless of the forum you get your information from (vblog, forum, youtube, etc.).

By taking the above approach, you begin to 'train with purpose'. While my coach was talking specifically about my sport, it is a life lesson that I have taken into both business and my personal life. To great reward.

These are my thoughts; I look forward to hearing yours.

I've said it here many times.
I'm the worst guy in the game about going out with AK.
I rarely get these hands.
I'm also thinking of you, playing more with small hands, because not always the biggest cards, are synonymous with good hands.

In tournaments with a short stack sometimes you can't lose your best hand. You will have to pray that it really is the best. :) Deep-stacked, this principle is true.
