It is a common mistake when players always want to participate in every hand-handling, especially by beginners, and unfortunately, the amount of shock from the players who must understand better.

what do you guys think??

yes if only the tournament is not a super-turbo with mini-stacks, where patience leads to auto-olline

I agree, not in all tournaments need patience. At the beginning of the tournament, I play different cards, otherwise would be difficult to improve your Bank.

Lots of patience is required in poker. In tourneys or even cash games it can be rough playing with out it.

I think that's about right. I wouldn't call it a tactic, though. A tactic is a specific line of actions, which is applicable only in specific contexts. So I would rather call it a strategy.

I'm not sure whether it is "the best strategy", though. It's just an important part of a good strategy, but there's also something as too much patience. Usually you want to discard most hands, with the lowest equity; however, you can't just wait for hands like QQ+ or fold. This will cost you on the long term.

But usually people are not patient enough rather than too patient (I also lack patience sometimes).

i dont agree with you, lets see :
whats the difference between tactic and strategy in the dictionary ??

1.strategy isa plan of action designed to achieve a long-term or overall aim.
2.tactic is an action or strategy carefully planned to achieve a specific end.
u see? they are the same.. No offense

Yes patience is very good quality, but always still have to play from the card on hand, and participate in every distribution very often leads to the loss.

Dictionaries don't get everything right, especially when it concerns subtle differences. You should also take the context into consideration.

A strategy is usually defined as a long-term plan to achieve an overall aim (similar to what the dictionary says). A tactic is defined as a specific line of actions to achieve a specific end (not that much different from the dictionary definition). A strategy is long-term, while a tactic is short-term. A strategy is general, while a tactic is specific.

This distinction is also used in games like chess.

I agree that patience is necessary when playing poker. Let's not confuse that with being too timid or scared to play good hands aggressively. From time to time, when in position, it is a good strategy to play some marginal hands. Even if you lose that hand, if you get the chance to get to showdown with mediocre cards, it could set you up for later, when you have a strong hand and really WANT the action. Playing too patiently will win you only the blinds on your pocket aces.

I'm not a naturally patient sort of person, sometimes wish I were. However, I find that I do my best on days when I can be patient, and my worst on days when I don't seem to be able to manage it. It clearly applies to tournament play. Anything past 2 1/2 hours inevitably puts me in an impatient frame of mind. Hence I'm not a big fan of big tournaments.

But it also applies to cash games, i.e., those days when you're just not making any money are those days when you're primed to try to force the issue. That rarely ends well (for me anyway).

Believe me, patience is the key moment in poker. I loose lots of times in the situations, when i can,t control my patience. No need to be aggressive and play every hand. Be patient and you can win.

This is typical of young players. I started the same way. Over time, I began to play more restrained and watch all the flops.
