Question/slight rant about my last 3 live tournaments. I've played in 7 so far, and have placed twice, getting 6th both times (avg 30-80 people MTTs). My last 3 losing hands are as follows (all are somewhat short-mid stacked): AKs v ATs all in preflop; she got T, not much to say here, just meh. sb(hero) defends Js7h in 3 way pot, flop J8hJd; sb check, bb bet 2bb, mp call; hero check raises to 4bb; bb shoves, mp folds, sb calls; bb turns over JQ. Is this a situation one could feasibly get away from? It felt like kind of a cooler, but I could have made a bad decision. sb(hero) with AA, 2 callers to bb, mp shoves, hero shoves, utg shoves, rest fold; AA v 88 v QTc(wut), 88 rivers an 8 high straight. Feels bad, but I don't see folding AA here right? Also, does anybody have any general advice for opening hand ranges in tournaments? I feel torn between calling/folding low connectors or hands like K7, Q8, etc. (9 seat tables, start with 60bb, 15 min rounds upping bb by 50% the 2nd round, then 100% per round starting the 3rd round).

Those three hands are just bad luck.

It's not luck, It's called variance and you have got to learn to deal with it. 2 out 7 ITM is kicking a$$. That's like 30%. Stop worrying about it.

1 and 3 hands are obvious so nothing to say here.
2 is strange I dont see J7o as a EV+ had.You just have to flop straings full house to be good, even if you flop a set you are easely behind.
bet>check-raise/shove ussualy indicate a monster. I mean it looks a like a slow roll + what could he be shoving here? you just hope fore some wired sPRF strong hand that he could not get away from

Unfortunately in poker there is always a very high variance and we have to make the best decisions in the long run, but there are some professionals who do many tournaments without winning anything, but when they win and recover what they lost, they still have a good profit. That's why we have to have good bankroll management. 12% really is luck and you did not have much luck.

A friend of mine! Read my article about EV G-baks, and about intuition! I think they will help you to understand! If you do not like that look for error in itself!
