Hello

I just started to play poker again. I ve read the book 'the mathematcis of poker' by Bill Chen. i highly recommend it, it is about optimal play. But i have some trouble at the table...

When i find an oppenent playing more agressively and i could play exploitive by making more calls re raise and this will increase the EV. But its not that i can isolate him from the rest of the players. So i find a problem when i keep trying to play optimal... Ofcourse i ll get more value out of my AA and KK etc...but these are rare hands and i find it hard to play the medium hand...which get overvalued by the bets going in...wich confuses me a bit cause optimal play should be the same against every strategy..but in the end i end up folding a lot of medium hand, because the bets go high and y it not cause they are more agressive they cant have the nuts. So if i play the same strategie i will get i increased value on my rare high hand but i lose a lot of value on my common medium hand...is this normal?

mvg,
Pieter

Whenever I'm sitting at a table and faced with a very aggressive player I do fold some of the weaker-mid hands if the price is to high. My strategy to make up for the losses is to find a position with a decent mid hand and be more aggressive than the other player.
This strategy is most likely not a very profitable one but I'm a recreational player right now. Joining CardsChat was my vow to start studying :deal:

If this is a tournament, it is tough when you have multiple players in a pot to try to isolate your man. Will need to look at pre-flop raises and what the players ranges are. If you are in a cash game and still have this issue, change tables.

I have very long studied the optimal play pre-flop and post-flop, I can say that the table is difficult to find a player with whom it was possible to do so, even at high stakes! But thanks to the knowledge I can exploit the game of the enemy! Therefore, I advise you to find the differences! They are and they are many! Knowledge always help not to lose time from their mistakes!
