So I have read some comments here in other threads and thought it would be good to start a discussion about the actual topic itself. My basic question is, is it ever ok to sit out? I mean I have personally always thought that sitting out was a bad idea, but some have recommended it in other forums. I play a lot of freerolls and wanted to know if this was a good since I can't feed myself due to my cerebral palsy and often have trouble making deep runs because I get hungry. Do you think it would be helpful if I sit out while I ate a quick bite, or would I miss too many spots?

Sitting out is actually a good idea when some of these happens
1)if u had a rush of top hands & won huge pots within short time , so we dont start to play loose and chase draws , get into typical spots just because we have huge stack as playing like this eventually will make us lose our stack over time in tourney
2)u are close to making it to itm and win min cash
3)if u have enough stack to win satty tkt then sitout option best
Other than 3 points above i dont see any other reasons to sit out

Deep runs require picking up spots and reading players on ur table & exploiting them
and obviously some luck
and another thing is i guess u lack patience thats why u are having this problem
i advise you develop patience within ur mind when playing poker because patience is everything in this game
since i am not a psychologist to give you any suggestions
My best advice is to try to meditate daily

I sit out all the time when i play freerolls on sports betting.

I register, take the early rebuy for 2K to bring my stack up to 3K, and then sit out for the first 55 minutes. At the break, I take add-on for 5K. Usually by this time, I'm down ~700 chips from my starting 3K.

This brings my total stack to ~7.3K w/ blinds at 75/150. Or ~48 BBs, which is fine for the mid-late stages of an MTT. It usually puts me slightly above average stack or better.

Also, there are not a lot of remaining players in the freeroll after the break. To give an example, I'm in a game right now that had 1215 entrants and it's not even the 1st break and only 220 remain.

So, I don't think I'm giving up too much my sitting out.

I never seat out on tourneys and that has cost me chips! When you are frustrated or start playing loosely seat out.

I also sit out all the time. If the blinds are 10+ mins and I chip up, why not? Lets my brain take a break. You are not going to "miss" anything (except maybe a few bad beats). I also take a break in live tournaments when ever I feel like it.

I think its a positive thing, whether to eat, stretch, smoke, or what ever you feel like, never pass up a break, you'll come back fresh.

One game sesiya should not exhaust you completely! Looking for rest breaks 20-30min! During the game the Session is better not to be distracted at all! Excessive number of games affects the quality of the game!

Usually I do not sit out , couse you can double up at a time when you sit out. For it has breaks to go to the toilet, drink or eat !

why dont you aim to to sit out 5-10mins before break? i've done this many times to grab a quick snack, let the dogs out and make a cuppa :) if your stack if looking good, you can let 10-20 mins of actual tourney time pass i've found. very useful in low buyin mtts freerolls, in my experience, seems the prime time to be coolered.

Obviously i have missed out on some spots that would have boosted me but looking through the hands ive usually found there are an equal amount with coolers..

come back clear, refreshed, well fed and missed as little game time as possible. make the game fit you my friend :)

Well, in tournaments a lot of players sit-out. Especially in freerolls with long registering times..

When you reach the bubble in those tournaments quite often you see a lot of sitting-out players still in the game. So for all the players that went out of the tournament before them, it would have been wiser to just sit-out :D

Sitting out in most situations is fine. I wouldn't do it while short stacked or in late rounds. One thing is for sure, I rather someone click sit out then not play on their turn and run the timer all the way out.

You can sit out in satellite when you are sure that you're gonna win.

I would love to sit out lol, but somehow I can't really, it just feels that I might miss some good spots to get more chips. But taking break before break actually sounds tempting, as in 5min you can't really do anything, and have to rush back to game. So, yeah, I might try that.

if your having one of those bad days and you get say 150k chips in one event and that can pay for your entire bankroll for that one day by sitting out and just collecting that money?

I do this and im ok to walk away and get that winning to make up for the day i was having knowing that it usually doesnt change when your being hit your gonna keep getting hit lol

If something happens in a game where I think I can't make an optimal decision anymore, I will sit out, clear my head and try to get myself rebalanced. The only person that benefits from me tilting is who I am in a hand with.

I usually try to avoid sitting out. I have had a few too many instances in which circumstances have required me to sit out for a hand or two. On too many of these occasions it seems like I return to my seat just in time to see my aces being folded, or a review of the hand history will show that I missed not only a big hand, but a gigantic pot. One, of course, does not always guarantee the other. But in the case of the OP, I would say that health concerns should take precedence over all else. Not only that, but if a blood sugar drop from hunger is keeping you from making, as Floppy puts it, making optimal decisions, it's better that you should take the time to rectify situation while you still have some chips.

I dont really sit out myself unless I have to but meh in the very early stages of a tourney if you want to grab something to eat or whatever that's fine... The blinds don't really effect you so it's just like registering a bit later.

Also if you are on a scatty bubble and you know you can fold into the money then you might as well sit out if you don't trust yourself to be able to fold aces when the big stack shoves.

Meh

Oh just read the whole of your post (yeah I know I was supposed to do that before) and I would definitely say that health>poker, especially if it's only for fairly small amounts of money. Go ahead and sit out :)
