Is “open-face” Chinese poker really about skill?

I've been playing this a lot recently, and it seems I can only win if I get lucky with long-odds strategies. If I plod along with the odds I go down in flames. Are there better strategies available?

I've been playing a lot of OFC lately with friends, and yes, I do believe that, just like with other poker variants, there is a lot of skill involved... but of course there is luck as well.

This is one of the best videos I've seen. His best tip, IMO, is "take what you get", and I hear those words of Gus echo every time I play the game.
