So far I've been playing online poker for free using facebook poker Apps (online) and also the free texas holdem poker game (offline) by microsoft. My question is how genuine are these games compared to playing at a real life casino? Also is pokerist.com good for someone learning the ropes?
Thanks, Archie

If you are playing opponents in these games it can be a useful learning tool but expect to see a lot more shoves because people aren't risking any of their own money.

it's quite useful for a start, but try to play freerolls in poker rooms, 888poker have best freerolls (not advertisement, just advice)

It'll get you a feel for the game but isn't realistic per say.

Freerolls are a good shout. Also, I find the Play Money feature on Stars to be a lot more realistic than say Zynga/wsop or the other free online poker platforms. There's less random shoving (granted still more than most real money games) and more experienced players.

Totally different real money players can feal you out live, and are predatory as can be.

People tend not to be serious when playing with play money. So you might not be learning much by playing those games

the feeling and understanding of poker is brighter and better when the game is played for money or real prizes.
playing on conditionally is fun and there is not gaining experience.
The real game will only bring an experience that will be heavy but useful

Think freerolls are probably the best to learn on, play money does not play anything like real money and at least with freerolls you have a chance to build your roll while learning.
