Was just playing a free roll, have never played this before so was kinda learning the game while I was playing, its not too different to holdem except for the high low bit.

Now I didn't have many chips left, and caught a flush on the turn because I had three spades in my hand so I went all in. 2 Other players call and turn up straights and I went out.

Now I know I don't know how to play this game but surely flush beats straight any day for the high pot. Im confused

On a plus side I quite like this game may start playing it a bit more

In Omaha you make a hand by exactly 2 cards from your hand, and exactly 3 cards from the table.
So even if you have 3 spades in your hand, and 2 on the table, you dont have a flush.

Omaha (high, and h/l) is kind of common on pokerstars, Fulltilt and lots of other sites too. There are both freerolls and all other levels too.
Omaha have bigger swings than holdem, so dont lose hope if you get bad beat more times than you are used to, thats kind of normal.

yea when i first started playing omaha i had trips in my hand and was like "awesome i have this on lock" then i lost and like you was curious as to how that happened. then i got online and started reading on how to play omaha as well as razz and figured out that i was playing all wrong lol. now i have as much experience in omaha razz and horse as i do in hold'em. i have really improved my game in the last year or so and am very pleased. i just can't seem to get over all the donky's on EVERY site i have played on. although i have found that there is less on pokerstars and ultimate bet than there is on full tilt for some reason lol.

In omaha you have 4 cards, and you are obligated to use 2 of them,
whichever two give you the best had will be the ones used. Now if you
have three cards for the flush in your hand and only 2 on the board,
you are one card off the flush. Also, if you have one flush card in your
hand and there are 4 of them on the board, you don't have a flush, cause
you are obligated to use 2 of the cards in your hand, so since only one of
them is of that suit, you missed the flush. Also keep in mind that omaha
hi low should usually be played like if it were omaha high, cause a lot of
the time there is no possible low, but there is only a high, so dont always
go betting if you have low cards, a lot of ppl dont keep that in mind.

It will take you a while to get that 2 cards in hand 3 on board thing down but after you go out of a toruney or two because you "thought" you had a hand you will get used to it.

Only Bridge - I have to disagree with you. If you are playing omaha and especially hilo correct you will not have the swings as it is hardr to get sucked out on. Omaha is by far my best game because it is pretty much all MATH. If you are playing hilo the right way you should be able to take most of the donks money. You will see lots of players drawing at 1/2 or 1/4 the pot. There are tons of LO chasers which is absulutly the wrong way to play hilo

Oh, this is so not true. Aside from the '2 cards from your hand' stuff there are many difference. In fact, the only thing similar is 1) the actual hand values are the same (boat beats a flush, etc) 2) the betting structure is the same (pre-flop bet, 3 cards flop, turn, river).

One difference is of course, Omaha HL is often played for limit or PL. Holdem can be that also, but each (NL, PL, and limit) is played a little differently.

Biggest difference, and you'll soon come to realize this... 4 cards give you 6 potential starting hands. So there are that many more ways your starting nuts will be screwed by the next card. You've got to be much more acutely aware of not only what hands could have you beat, but what cards could likely come to spoil your straight (like a pair, a flush, or even a higher straight).

It takes a lot of skill (via experience) to decide whether or not your non-nuts could win - and this is based on table reads, how many in the hand, etc. You have to pick up on little nuances, like 2 low cards 3 & over hitting the flop - and who is escalating the betting when the low finally hits, or cautious until it hits. Putting people on reads in HL is a trickier business than hold'em.

Omaha is a great game but so much different then NL. Omaha is a game in wich you can bet your draws. Trust me I`ve been playing it for yrs. and I still scratch my head at times.

....can you tell me what hand is better in 7-stud....razz...high or low..?

I don't understand your question. Razz is a low only game. The best razz hand = best stud low hand. Although in stud, if your low is not to the 8 hi, there is no low.

I decided to start a learning omaha thread for april and we'll see where it goes. i've played a small amount of hands this month but figured it'd be a great place to start at CC since there's no real "home" for omaha on the site.
