The most confusing part about this game when transisioning from hold'em is being able to read your hand correctly consistently.

You MUST use 2 cards from your hand. So if you have A23J in your hand and the final board is 289TQ Your high hand is 22AQT not 89TJQ. Also even though you have 3 excellent low cards, there is no low because there are only 2 cards on the board 8 or lower.

Reading hands is the first step to playing this game effectively. I recommend watching some games and practice reading the board at each step. Is low avaialble. What is the best low. What is the best high hand. Take note of how the best high hand can, and usually does, change drasticaly with a single card.

Here's two big hands I made at the same table. Take a guess at why they're big hands.

in the one on the left you flopped the nut flush draw and you also have A 2 3 4 5 which is apparentley the best low hand, is that correct?

in the one on the right you hit a set of 2s and also have low hand of A 2 3 4 7

am i getting warm? lol

You can only use two cards from your hand, so I only have the best low *draw*. So I have the nut low draw (which cannot be counterfitted), a wheel wrap (any 2, 3, or 4 gives me a wheel), and the nut flush draw. There are lots of cards in the deck which will give strong hands in BOTH directions, which allows me to scoop. Playing for half the pot is not what you want to do in this game, you want to win the whole thing.

I have a set of 2's, and a low hand of 74321 (its read from highest to lowest), which is the best low possible. So I have a strong hand in both directions.
