To note, or not to note -- this is my question ;)

Actually I guess the subject line should be what to note, and what not to.... ;)

Anyhow, I've been taking a lot them lately lately and was wondering which ones are really important for microstakes cash games. I've made a rough list of the kinds of hands I think I should be noting as often as possible; it's based in part of what I notice other people in the forums are noting. I might be missing some essential ones, and I might be overdoing it and putting down stuff I just don't need to at, especially these stakes. Lemme know you think. (Btw, for all of these I'm noting the villain's specific cards, not time/opportunity stats that I could see in the HUD.)

Preflop:
  • 3bets light
  • Open limps strong
  • Resteals the blinds
  • Shoves short stacked w/ non-premium hands
  • Backraises
Flop:
  • Cbets w/ air (especially on a wet flop)
  • Semi-bluffs w/ draws
  • Check-raises flop w/ TP or worse
  • Shoves/gets it in w/ big combo draws (12+ outs)
Turn/Riv/Showdown:
  • Raises or check-raises turn w/ TP or worse
  • Calls 2 or 3 barrels w/ draws (especially weaker draws)
  • Over plays big pocket pairs to the showdown (especially on a wet board)
  • Bluffs river w/ air
Any suggestions?

I just put a note next to your Avatar, "Copious note-taker".

Your note taking has been noted.

If you can take notes like that it can only help. I like to keep mine simple like "solid" or "wild" or "bluffs on river". But the more info the better, i guess. I'm too lazy, so I keep my notes very basic.

Ha! Your reply above is noted as well. ;)

I usually have a very basic word/phrase at the top of the note (like "idiot fish plays atc" or "insane maniac bluffs at any big pot" or "super nit". And I am by no means doing this for every villain on every hand. This is just a rough mental check list that I run through (well, try to run through) after I play a big hand against someone ... assuming I have a few seconds if I'm not involved in a hand at another table. I'm just trying to get a sense of what I might want to look for in a villain's play that my HUD won't already tell me.

I think it's a very good idea to take notes (I'm an avid note-taker).Not only for future reference but it also helps one's observation skills.

I believe it is a crutial part of on-line poker,

For example, In a ring game, If I havent made notes on a player and coloured their Avatar, then I clearly know, I havent played a session with them before.

I've recently starting taking notes, since I've started using a HUD I'm been focusing a lot more on analysing my opponents play. I use simple one/two word coin terms to associate with players, more for special occasions or for re-occurring sessions.

Sounds like you got a good system in place.

The more you play, the more you see what helps you against frequent players. I note any time anything stands out, whatever it is. I play 4+ tables so dont always have time for extensive notes, but will always note exceptional play - be it good, bad or whatever.
