I was just wondering, if there is, what is the difference between a Nit and a TAG (Tight AGgressive) player?

A nit will only play the very best of starting hands, and they'll often lay down marginal ones after the flop.

A TAG, on the other hand, has a range of other moves in their arsenal. While they mostly stick to good starting hands, they'll be more likely to try things like squeezes and button steals as well.

A nit is also usually more passive. They play there good hands but not always as aggressively.

I'm taking a nit/aggressive approach (NAG?) when it comes to grinding 2nl.

nit - A nit in poker only plays premium starting hands and afraid to put in money without the absolute nuts.

and yes TAG is tight aggressive

Basically nits play too tight and fold too much after the flop. And then when they do connect to the board they make it painfully obvious, so it is pretty easy to not give them action.

Haha ... that was funny c9.

I would see nits *a lot* at 25nl full ring on both stars and full tilt. Speaking in PT3/HEM language, these are players with VPIPS/PFR numbers of something like 8/5 meaning they only come in with the best 8% of hands. VERY tight.

TAG means "Tight Aggressive" which I would agree with C9 a lot of nits think they are playing that way and they really aren't. The proper range for playing a TAG style is debatable, but it sure is looser than a nit's range (given above) and you will see good strong aggression factor numbers and cbet/fold to cbet numbers for post flop play.

I personally love sitting down at a table with a bunch of "Rocks" (Nit's) and stealing pot after pot... I have around 55k hands in my HEM2 database for Revolution Network (formerly Cake) and it is quite easy money to pick up on in cash games... I am currently playing at .05/.10 cash tables on intertops (Rev Network) and I find that 4 A.M. - 9 A.M Pacific Time is the best time for me to pick up on these pots... STT's are a different story though... I reform my play from TAG to well... I won't give out that info... I still find that the Revolution network is FULL of Green fish / Bluefish and trapping is a major thing that I focus on... currently my stat's over a 21.5k hand sample size @ .05/.10 NL is nice at 10.6bb/100...

Seriously... HEM2 for $90 is one of THE BEST investments I have made (however I still have some leaks to address in my game as I am adjusting back to the Cash Arena.

My two cents,
Moe.

In my opinion in the yr 2012 the difference is a TAG will attack regardless of hand quality in very good spots/// meaning a TAG can squeeze in a great position or 3 bet uber light, but does so aggressively in a spot that isnt marginal.....while a nit is just too tight to take advantage of situational poker very much.

Nits did well back in the golden age of online poker(2002-2006), but since the proliferation of HUDs, coaching sites, and general poker knowledge, they have proably become the most exploitable player type out there.

Honestly, nothing is more fun than playing my semiLAG/TAG style against a table full of nits who think they are going to trap me in one big hand.

Obviously I have their stats and a strong read, so unless a cooler situation comes up it just isnt happening.

NAG is a real thing? Wouldn't it jump for TAG? I'm confused now...

NAGS exsist. I've never seen one at the poker table, but I know a lot of women I'd consider to be NAGS

ive adopted a nitty style when playing cardschat league and freeroll games as the vast majority of the guys are nits or nags lol...my natural game is lagtard but i never really got far when playing that style against the guys on here so thought, 'if i cant beat them join them'...seems to work lol, all it takes is good old abc nit and good luck with flips to do well consistantly in the forums games.....although im not a fan of nits and im glad im not one in real life coz it must be boring and shows a lack of skill for the game...

A nit just plays practically the nuts a tighter range, where a tag is aware of position and uses it to his advantage.
