Hi all,

This is my first post so please excuse my 'noobness'!

Was wondering if I could get some input on one of my hand I played in my local tournament. I've been playing poker low key for many years, but in the last month I've joined a local league and starting playing more seriously and learning from books and forums etc...

Anyway:
3 handed game, I'm short stacked. I'm on BB with around 10BB's, to my left is TAG chip leader with >40BB, to his left is TAG with around 25BB.
I'm dealt 75o, chip leader flat calls, next folds, I call. Flop 10,5,2 rainbow. Try to put chip leader off pot by going all-in, chip leader instant calls with 10Qo, turn and river don't help either of us and I go out in third place.

Table was medium tight for the stage we were at, the thing was that I'd got away with a similar play earlier in the night when we were 4 handed (Pushed someone off pocket 6's when I had pair 5's post flop).

My question is with a stack that short was I right to go all in, or should I have done a 3BB bet and seen how chip leader reacted?

Thanks to all who reply

Personally, I would have felt it out and not gone all in. I don't think making a call like that is necessarily a bad move, but not with the hand you had. In that particular situation, I wouldn't hesitate to do a semi-bluff, but I wouldn't go into it with just a pair of 5s.

I know you're looking to get some chips and are afraid of getting squeezed out if you hit a string of bad cards, but I'd take my chances on seeing if I can get some better hands rather than risking it right then and there. What I've found is that often chip leaders are looking for you to make bluffs when you're in the position you were, and so they have a likelihood of calling it. Even a three bet in that situation probably would have been more than I would have done with pair of 5s. If you're that far in the tournament, I think you just play a bit more tighter, wait til you get a strong hand, and then often I'll play a strong hand weakly if I was in your position see if I can bait a raise.

I have made similar plays in like situations but I believe you still had some time before having to shove there...3 handed opens things up but think you could of found better spot...gl

Thanks for all the replies - I thought that might have been the right thing to do... unfortunately I only realized that after I'd lost!

Thanks again

I think a check raise wouldve been better to get some extra chips if he's bluffing. You still had time and I think thats only a good move if you have around 6bbs left where he wouldve bet and call with a hand beating yours or two overs.

Agree with the above. Think there would have been a better time to shove.
